Chapter 1244 - 1243: Battle on the Water
Chapter 1244 - 1243: Battle on the Water
Although Bald tends to be a bit impulsive, he's not so naive to an extent in terms of realm. Once he figured out whether Tang Rao was using reverse psychology or genuinely wanted to spar, he immediately regained clarity."Tang Rao, my master said that people like you, who turn halfway to the path, when competing with me, are just stepping stones on my future route. I want you to live a bit longer so you can see me reach the peak and obtain everything I dream of."
Bald lives in a dream world; that's Tang Rao's only assessment.
I'm at a mid-stage peak and you're just a recent mid-stage. We haven't even fought and you're predicting victory and defeat. Are you really that opposed to me?
Tang Rao just doesn't like it when someone underestimates him to such a degree, stripping him of any confidence.
"Buddy, we're only at the foot of the mountain now. Stop talking so much, let's wait till one of us reaches the top, and then we'll determine the winner. I might as well give you some face and let you enjoy the scenery a bit longer."
Don't think that Bald's the only one who can say such grand words. Tang Rao can do the same.
On the rugged mountain, there's no obvious path. The only way discernible is via the recently dried-up riverbed. Tang Rao followed the riverbed upward and along the way defeated two weaklings trying to sneak through. Bald did okay, too, as several were taken out by him.
The peaceful path was an unusually smooth journey.
"Tang Rao, ahead is the first watershed. Are you sure you want to rush through it?"
As the journey progressed, Bald grew increasingly apprehensive, slowing his pace.
Having been here before, Bald was confident, merely trying to frighten Tang Rao to observe his fearful expression.
"What's a watershed?"
Tang Rao casually replied; whatever the watershed was, as long as Wu Suowei hadn't specifically mentioned it, he didn't need to pay much attention to it.
"You don't even know what a watershed is, a country bumpkin!"
For the first time, Tang Rao was called a country bumpkin. He didn't mind, staying calm and observing Bald. Initially expecting Bald to explain what a watershed was, Bald remained silent instead.
"Fine, don't explain. Only bumpkins worry about watersheds."
Tang Rao continued forward at the same speed, finally realizing what a watershed meant.
The dried-up riverbed wasn't due to seasonal changes; it was because a massive rupture appeared between riverbeds, causing all the water to drain away.
Just the grandeur of it left Tang Rao in utter shock.
In such vast water, there must be significant sediment, right? The water's impact could make Tang Rao dizzy, the sediment carried by the water could threaten his life. Tang Rao had no idea how to cross this river.
"Farewell, bumpkin."
Bald, originally behind, due to Tang Rao assessing the terrain, soon surged ahead of Tang Rao. Just as Tang Rao wanted to see how Bald would cross, Bald summoned a Divine Beast, effortlessly carrying him across the river.
"Brother, never thought you're such an unfriendly person."
Despite the competition, at times like this, Tang Rao should have been taken alongside.
Tang Rao didn't want to switch roles; he knew that if he did, he wouldn't take Bald across.
"Xiao Xue, come out!"
At Tang Rao's call, Xiao Xue appeared before him.
"Quick, help me catch up to the Black Crow upfront and pluck all its feathers."
Tang Rao instructed, and irrespective of right or wrong, Xiao Xue would follow his command.
Originally thinking it was just a simple fracture stream crossing, Tang Rao believed Xiao Xue carrying him across would suffice. But upon flying over the riverbed, Tang Rao realized just how fanciful his imagination was.
Looking from above, everything below was a vast expanse of white, endless in its breadth.
"Xiao Xue, can you persist? Seems like there's a pressure around us making it hard to endure."
Tang Rao sensed the air wasn't right; he was strong enough to handle it, but Xiao Xue was different. It had to both carry Tang Rao forward and withstand the force exceeding its strength.
"I can hold on a bit longer, but not much longer."
With Xiao Xue's capacity not too bad, its declaration gave Tang Rao a reassurance as if taking a reassuring pill.
"Eat this elixir pill; it can temporarily boost your strength to combat the air pressure. Xiao Xue, the road ahead relies on you now."
Tang Rao handed the elixir pill to Xiao Xue's mouth, which consumed it without hesitation, increasing its stamina significantly.
"Hey, Black Crow, I thought your speed was unbeatable; seems like it's pretty average."
Tang Rao quietly said to Xiao Xue, encouraging it to approach the Black Crow to ridicule Bald, mocking him.
"I thought only I had a mount; you do too. Lucky you! But let's see how you handle what's next."
Unaffected by Tang Rao, Bald's confidence remained unwavering.
"Regretfully, I said I'd let you witness my victory on the mountain top earlier. But seeing your enigmatic confidence, I just want to hit you."
Xiao Xue synchronizes its divine sense with Tang Rao. Without needing verbal commands on maneuvering, Xiao Xue instinctively matched Tang Rao's pace. The Black Crow didn't stand a chance against their partnership, and after Tang Rao's attacks, it began wobbling.
"Xiao Hei, stay strong!"
Bald's face finally showed genuine fear. On an endless riverside, he feared tumbling down, dying in the torrent below.
"My skill with Xiao Hei isn't bad, if circumstances allowed, I'd make you a stew of Xiao Hei."
Tang Rao was immensely proud.
"Tang Rao, don't push me too far."
Luckily Bald reacted swiftly, quickly switching to an ultimate Divine Beast.
This Divine Beast was passed down from Bald's elder, meant for the final showdown, but sensing he might not last till then, Bald unveiled his trump card early.
"Let's see, my Xiao Xue can take down your Black Crow, and it'll handle that one too."
Currently, Tang Rao was uncertain about the leopard-like Divine Beast Bald unleashed, unaware of its strength.
He opted to move to the side, distancing from the yellow leopard.
Once on land, the gap between him and Bald would narrow significantly.
Continuing upward, Tang Rao finally saw the water diminish and clear, no longer raging like before.
Tang Rao guided Xiao Xue to land in the shallow water.
