Chapter 100 Trapped in a Trap and in Danger
Chapter 100 Trapped in a Trap and in Danger
I hadn't walked a few steps when I felt something soft and yielding under my feet... Something was wrong. I looked down but saw nothing, only a faint glow emanating from the bottom of the passage. Just then, my footing gave way, and I plummeted downwards!
"Ah!" I cried out in surprise, my body falling uncontrollably. The wind howled past, and I desperately tried to grab onto something, but grasped nothing. I crashed heavily to the ground, feeling as if my internal organs had shifted, a sharp pain shooting from my tailbone to the top of my head. I struggled to get up, only to find myself trapped!
The bottom of the trap was covered with sharp wooden spikes, mixed with some gleaming metal spikes, which made my scalp tingle. To make matters worse, the walls around the trap were covered with dark green vines, which writh like venomous snakes and emitted a nauseating stench.
I gritted my teeth against the pain and tried to move my leg. Thankfully, the bone didn't seem to be broken. I carefully avoided the spikes, trying to find a place to stand, but the bottom of the trap was cramped, with almost no foothold.
The dark green vines seemed to sense my movement and began to stir. One vine shot towards me like lightning, and I quickly dodged to the side. The vine grazed my cheek, bringing with it a chilling gust of wind. I broke out in a cold sweat; that vine was incredibly fast!
More vines surged in from all directions, and I swung my longsword, severing the approaching ones one by one. However, these vines seemed endless; cutting one only resulted in more surging forward. I was trapped in the center of the trap, unable to move forward or backward.
As I dodged the attacks of the vines, I observed the structure of the trap, hoping to find a way out. However, the trap was completely slippery, with nowhere to climb. I grew increasingly anxious; at this rate, I would eventually be exhausted by these vines.
Suddenly, I felt a tightening around my ankle as a vine wrapped around it and pulled me violently to the ground. As I fell, a sharp thorn grazed my arm, sending a sharp pain through me. I looked down and saw the wound had quickly turned black, and a numbing sensation spread along it.
Oh no, these spikes are poisonous!
I had a bad feeling and quickly used my spiritual power to seal the acupoints around the wound to stop the poison from spreading. However, more vines wrapped around me, tightly binding my hands and feet. I struggled to break free, but found that my strength was waning and my consciousness was beginning to fade.
Just then, I heard a chilling voice coming from above the trap: "Tsk tsk, what a pity, such a delicate beauty is about to perish here."
I looked up and saw a man in a blood-red robe standing at the edge of the trap, looking down at me. The man was pale, his lips were as red as blood, and his eyes gleamed with greed.
“Blood… Blood Demon…” I managed to utter two words.
The Blood Demon smiled coldly: "I didn't expect you to still recognize me. Since that's the case, then obediently hand over the treasures you possess, and perhaps I can consider giving you a quick death."
"You...are dreaming!"
"Dream on!" Even in dire straits, I will never bow down to this villain. The spiritual energy within my body is rapidly draining away like a receding tide, the poison is spreading at an alarming rate, the numbness is growing stronger, and I even feel my tongue starting to lose its control.
Seeing my firm stance, the Blood Demon wasn't angry. Instead, he let out a contemptuous sneer: "You won't listen to reason, so don't blame me for being ruthless." As he spoke, a ball of blood-red flame suddenly appeared in his hand, flickering and radiating a suffocating heat wave.
"What do you want to do?" Alarm bells rang in my mind. I struggled desperately, only to find that I was being bound tighter and tighter by the vines and could not move at all.
The Blood Demon grinned sinisterly: "Of course, I'm sending you on your way! The taste of these hellfire flames is quite wonderful; I hope you enjoy it." As he spoke, he was about to throw the blood-red flame in his hand into the trap.
In that critical moment, a technique my master had once taught me suddenly flashed through my mind—the "Ice Heart Technique." This technique could temporarily suppress the toxins in my body; although its duration was short, it might buy me a glimmer of hope.
I quickly focused my mind and recited the incantation, mobilizing all the remaining spiritual energy within my body. A chilling aura surged from my dantian, rapidly spreading throughout my entire body. The numbness subsided slightly, and I felt I could control my body again.
"You think you can kill me? Not so easy!" I roared, using all my strength to unleash my spiritual power and shatter the vines binding my body.
The Blood Demon was clearly surprised that I could break free, a hint of astonishment flashing in his eyes. But he quickly regained his composure and sneered, "Just a death throes."
Ignoring his taunts, I seized the opportunity while the poison was temporarily suppressed to quickly scramble to my feet, warily eyeing the Blood Demon. I knew that in my current state, I was no match for him; I had to find a way to buy time and wait for rescue.
"Blood Demon, do you think you can kill me like this? Let me tell you, I have a secret treasure protecting me, you won't succeed!" I said, trying to remain calm, hoping to scare him away.
The Blood Demon hesitated, staring at me greedily, as if weighing the pros and cons.
I took the opportunity to take a deep breath and activated the Ice Heart Technique again to buy more time. However, the Ice Heart Technique's effects were limited, and I felt the poison starting to stir again, and the numbness returned.
Just then, I heard a slight noise above the trap. My heart leaped with joy; could it be that someone was coming?
The Blood Demon also heard the commotion. He looked up alertly, and the crimson flames in his hand went out.
"Who's there?" he shouted.
No one answered.
Just as the Blood Demon was about to step forward to check, I suddenly felt a blur before my eyes, and a figure silently appeared at the edge of the trap.
She was a woman dressed in a purple robe, with a cold and aloof appearance and an otherworldly air. In her hand, she held a long sword that emitted a cold light.
"Youyue..." I recognized the person, and my heart was filled with mixed emotions. Would she save me? Or... would she kick me when I'm down?
Youyue glanced at me coldly, then turned to Blood Demon and said coldly, "Blood Demon, your opponent is me."
Youyue's appearance was so sudden that I didn't know how to react for a moment. Her confrontation with the Blood Demon was like the calm before a sudden storm, so oppressive that I could hardly breathe. I tried to suppress the toxins surging within me. The effects of the Ice Heart Technique were gradually fading, and the numbness surged back like a tide. I could even feel my lips starting to turn purple.
There was no immediate battle between Youyue and the Blood Demon; they simply stared at each other silently, the air thick with tension. Youyue coldly glared at the Blood Demon, her eyes filled with disdain and disgust, as if she were looking at an ant. The Blood Demon, on the other hand, wore a greedy expression, his gaze shifting back and forth between Youyue and me, seemingly plotting something.
I suppressed my discomfort and secretly observed the area around the trap. My master had once said that opportunities often lie hidden in adversity. I carefully examined the rock walls of the trap, hoping to find some clues. Finally, I discovered some tiny scratches in an inconspicuous corner. These scratches were so shallow that they would be almost invisible without careful observation.
A thought flashed through my mind—could this be a clue to the mechanism? I forced myself closer to the scratches, carefully observing their direction and arrangement. These scratches seemed chaotic, yet they subtly revealed a pattern. I tried to recall the mechanical skills my master had taught me, attempting to decipher the secret of these scratches.
Time ticked by, and my body grew weaker and weaker. The toxins were taking their toll, almost robbing me of my ability to think. But I didn't give up. I firmly believed that as long as I had a breath left, I would find a way out.
Youyue and the Blood Demon remained locked in a stalemate, neither making the first move. I felt Youyue's gaze occasionally fall on me, her eyes filled with a complex and unfathomable expression; I couldn't discern her thoughts. Would she save me? Or was she simply waiting for the right moment to reap the benefits?
I dared not gamble; I could only rely on myself. I took a deep breath, concentrating all the remaining spiritual energy in my body into my fingertips, and gently pressed along the scratches. Suddenly, I felt a slight vibration from my fingertips, and then a thin crack appeared in the rock wall of the trap.
I was overjoyed; it seemed my guess was correct! I continued pressing along the narrow crack, which gradually widened until it became a fissure large enough for one person to pass through.
I endured the excruciating pain and struggled to squeeze out of the crack. Just as I was freed, I heard a loud crash behind me. Turning around, I saw that the entrance to the trap had been sealed off by a huge rock, trapping Blood Demon and Ghost Moon inside.
I was stunned. Who was it? Who sealed the trap? Could it be Youyue? Why would she do such a thing?
Before I could think, I felt a strong sense of crisis wash over me. I whirled around and saw... Chief Huang's狰狞 (zhengning, meaning ferocious or hideous) face right in front of me. "Little wench, let's see where you run now!"
The greedy and vicious face of Chief Huang came into view, and I had a bad feeling. He grinned maliciously, still holding a stone in his hand. "Little wench, let's see where you run this time! Hand over the treasure obediently, and you'll suffer less!"
As he spoke, he hurled the stone at me. I gritted my teeth, enduring the excruciating pain, and barely managed to dodge it. The stone struck the trap wall, sending fragments flying and dust billowing in my face, making me cough.
"Cough cough..." I clutched my chest, feeling a metallic taste in my throat. Damn it, this poison is getting stronger! I have to get out of here as soon as possible!
Enraged that his attack had missed, Chief Huang grabbed an even larger rock and prepared to smash it down. "You won't listen to reason, so you'll have to drink the penalty cup! Let's see how long you can hide!"
As I dodged the falling rocks, I continued to carefully examine the scratches on the trap wall. These scratches were fine and intricate; a slight misstep could cause me to miss a crucial detail. My fingers trembled, almost giving way beneath my grip.
"Die!" Chief Huang roared, and stones rained down from above the trap. I dodged left and right, struggling to survive in the cramped space like a trapped beast.
A stone grazed my arm, tearing my sleeve and leaving a bloody gash. I groaned, not daring to linger, and continued to fumble for the mechanism. Time ticked by, my physical and spiritual energy rapidly draining away, and my vision began to blur.
Youyue and the Blood Demon remained locked in a standoff, seemingly oblivious to everything around them. Youyue would occasionally glance at me, her gaze still complex and unreadable. I smiled bitterly to myself; it seemed I couldn't count on her.
Finally, my finger touched a slightly raised area. I was overjoyed and pressed down hard.
With a soft "click," a thin crack appeared in the trap wall. I was overjoyed; I had finally found it!
However, at that moment, a huge rock fell from the sky and smashed into my chest. I coughed up a mouthful of blood, my vision went black, and I almost fainted.
I mustered my last breath and continued pressing the mechanism. The narrow slit grew wider and wider, eventually becoming a crack large enough for one person to pass through.
I used all my strength to crawl out of the crack. As soon as I landed, I heard a loud crash behind me. I turned around and saw that the entrance to the trap had been blocked by a huge rock, trapping Blood Demon, Ghost Moon, and... the cursing Chief Huang inside.
Who was it? Who sealed the trap?
Without thinking, I staggered forward. I had to find a safe place to heal and suppress the toxins as soon as possible.
Suddenly, I felt a powerful aura rapidly approaching... "Come out!" a deep voice sounded behind me.
