Chapter 31 Encountering a Mysterious Person
Chapter 31 Encountering a Mysterious Person
So, I quickly got ready and hurried downstairs. Unexpectedly, I ran into the Double Ninth Festival as soon as I got downstairs.
He greeted her with a big smile and asked, "Sister Yuechu, you seem to be in a hurry. Where are you headed?"
I smiled and replied, "Oh, I'm planning to go to the supermarket to buy some snacks." I then gently shook the reusable bag in my hand to show it to him.
The streets were bustling with people, a lively scene. But I knew that countless dangers lurked behind this apparent tranquility.
At that moment, I noticed a mysterious figure watching me from a corner of the street.
My heart skipped a beat, and I immediately became more alert.
Could it be the mastermind behind the shadowy figure who's been following me? I've decided not to alert them; whatever their schemes and plots may be exposed eventually.
I continued walking forward nonchalantly, while keeping an eye on the mysterious figure out of the corner of my eye. He was dressed in all black, wearing a hat and a mask, so I couldn't see his face.
He didn't seem to follow, but stood still, though I could feel his gaze fixed on me.
I quickened my pace and entered the supermarket. Inside, I happily browsed through all sorts of snacks and fruits.
I didn't care about anything outside at the moment, but when I arrived at the fresh food section, I saw a familiar figure.
It was that mysterious man from the street corner! He was standing in front of the crab tank, intently watching the crabs inside.
A question arose in my mind: what was he doing here? Was he also here to buy hairy crabs? I decided to quietly approach him and see what he was up to.
Just as I walked up behind him, he suddenly turned around and we made eye contact.
On a sudden impulse, I stared at him and asked, "Is there something you need?"
His eyes flickered, seemingly surprised, but he quickly regained his composure.
"You...you also like to eat hairy crabs?" he asked in a low voice.
I shrugged, trying to look as natural as possible.
"Of course, hairy crabs are a delicacy. But why have you been following me?" I asked bluntly, voicing my question.
He didn't answer directly, but pointed to the hairy crabs in the water tank.
“Look how lively and energetic these crabs are. They crawl freely in the water, just like some people in our lives.” His words left me a little confused.
"What exactly are you trying to say?" I pressed.
He smiled slightly, then lowered his voice and said, "I just want to remind you that sometimes, unexpected dangers may lurk beneath the seemingly calm surface. Just like these crabs, they may be waiting for the right moment to strike."
After saying that, he turned and left the fresh produce section, leaving me standing there lost in thought.
What did he mean? Was he hinting at something or declaring war on me?
I went to the checkout counter to pay. As I walked out of the supermarket, the staring disappeared, and I felt as if nothing had ever happened.
I walked slowly toward the inn, while Chongyang stood at the inn's entrance, looking around.
When he saw me, he quickly stepped forward and took the things from my hands with a big smile. "Sister Yuechu, if I had known you were buying so many things, I should have taken me with me. I could have helped you carry them."
"No need, I can easily carry this little thing. Chongyang, thank you for your hard work these past few days!" I said with a smile, my eyes crinkling.
Chongyang waved his hand gently, a hint of embarrassment on his face, and said softly, "It's not hard at all, really not hard at all. This kind of life makes me feel incredibly happy and blessed."
Chongyang moved his lips slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he didn't say anything.
Perhaps she was afraid of saying the wrong thing and upsetting Yuechu, or perhaps she was worried about being disliked by the other party.
I looked at Chongyang with great interest, a slight smile playing on my lips, and said in a teasing tone, "Oh ho, is it because you're so happy because you'll be indulging in delicious snacks later?"
My words, like a playful breeze, gently brushed against the heartstrings of Chongyang.
Upon hearing this, Chongyang became speechless, his once fluent speech turning into incoherent jumble. He hurriedly explained, "No, no, it's definitely not because of snacks! It's because..."
He paused here, hesitated for a moment, and then finally mustered up the courage to continue: "It's because Sister Yuechu is here with me that I feel the warmth and happiness of home."
I was slightly taken aback, and a warm feeling welled up in my heart. Looking into Chongyang's sincere eyes, I was deeply moved.
I patted him on the shoulder and said gently, "Thank you, Chongyang. We are family, and being together is the greatest happiness." Chongyang nodded vigorously, his face beaming with a bright smile.
We went into the inn and put away our purchases together. Then, I sat down and shared some snacks with Chongyang. We ate and chatted in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
In this heartwarming moment, I realize that no matter what difficulties and challenges I may encounter in the future, as long as my family is by my side, I will have enough courage and strength to face everything.
Our story continues, and this warm feeling will be my motivation to move forward.
Of course, my family includes not only Chongyang, but also Qiqing and Wulai.
I didn't stay downstairs for long; I haven't finished my main tasks for today yet!
I carried a large bag of snacks that I had carefully selected and bought, and walked briskly upstairs.
After entering the room, I placed the snacks I was holding on the table, and then focused my mind to summon Seven Emotions and Mist Lai from the mysterious space.
Wu Lai remained as arrogant and haughty as ever, raising his chin slightly with a hint of disdain in his eyes.
But her feelings were completely different. She was very close to me, as if I were her whole life.
As soon as it appeared, Qiqing, like a cheerful little bird, swirled and danced around me, its mouth emitting a melodious, bell-like laugh.
"Wu Lai, Qi Qing, thank you so much for your help these past few days. Without you, many things probably wouldn't have been possible. This is just a small token of my appreciation; it's some snacks I bought especially for you." I said with a smile, handing them the bag in my hand.
"Hmph, oh ho, you finally remembered me! I thought you only called me out of retirement when you were in trouble!" Wu Lai crossed her arms and gave me a coquettish glare, but the corners of her mouth unconsciously turned up slightly, revealing that she wasn't really angry inside.
