Chapter 180 Southeast Asian Positions Begin to Close Out
At eight o'clock in the morning, Lingyun opened the trading terminal.
The Singapore account's holdings list has been reduced by half. Stock index futures positions have been completely liquidated, and NDFs have been closed by one-third. Cash balance: US$940 million.
He picked up the phone and dialed an international number.
The first call was to Hong Kong. It was answered after four rings.
"Zheng Bin".
"Ling Yun," Zheng Bin's voice was still groggy from just waking up, "So early?"
"I'm starting to close out my positions in Southeast Asia."
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone, followed by a rustling sound, as if Zheng Bin had sat up.
"Completely flat?"
"All levels. Completed within a week."
"There's still room for growth in the market..."
"Leave the space for others." Ling Yun looked at the screen. "I've received information that some countries may restrict the outflow of foreign capital. It's safer to leave early."
Zheng Bin didn't answer immediately. He heard the sound of a lighter coming from the receiver and lit a cigarette.
"How much profit are you making over there?" he asked.
"Don't worry about how much profit you make; only the money that ends up in your own pocket is yours."
"Understood." Zheng Bin exhaled a puff of smoke. "I'll start withdrawing today. How much do you suggest we withdraw?"
"It's best to withdraw everything, convert it to US dollars, and transfer it back to your Hong Kong or Singapore account. Whether it's futures or NDFs, get out of the market as soon as possible."
"it is good."
"Is there anything else?"
"Yes," Zheng Bin said. "I installed ten of your Starry Sky system in my Hong Kong office to test it out. The employees said they weren't used to it, but the speed is indeed fast."
"You'll get used to it after using it for a while."
"Okay. I'm hanging up."
The call ended. Ling Yun made a note in his notebook: Zheng Bin, notification complete.
The second call was made to Beijing. This time it rang six times before being answered.
"Ziyu".
"Lingyun!" Li Ziyu's voice was energetic, with car horns blaring in the background. "Where are you?"
"Silicon Valley. Southeast Asia operations are finished; I'm closing out my positions."
"It's over? Wasn't it just beginning?"
"I've already withdrawn," Ling Yun said. "If you still have any funds on your side, I suggest you deal with them within this week."
Why?
"The wind may shift. Some countries can't hold on any longer, and they might resort to unconventional measures."
Li Ziyu paused for a moment, and then heard someone speaking in the background. He replied, "Wait a minute."
"I understand." He lowered his voice a little. "I withdrew some of my funds last week to lock in profits and transferred some money out. My profit wasn't as much as yours, but the return rate was still very high."
"That's good."
"There's one more thing," Li Ziyu said. "The domestic fund's license has been approved. It's called 'Nebula Capital,' with a registered capital of 100 million RMB. The investors have been found, and they're all reliable. When are you coming back so we can meet?"
"End of the month."
"Specific time?"
Around October 25th.
"Okay, I'll arrange it," Li Ziyu said. "Several investors are very interested in you and want to see what kind of person can make Microsoft so angry."
"It's not that exaggerated."
"Yes." Li Ziyu laughed. "What you did in the US has spread throughout the domestic circles. Some people say you're crazy, some say you're a genius."
"Let them say what they want."
"See you at the end of the month. Let me know when you've booked your flight, and I'll pick you up from the airport."
"it is good."
The call ended. Ling Yun made another note in his notebook: Li Ziyu, meet at the end of the month.
He put down his pen and looked at the trading terminal. The closing order on the screen was still being executed; another NDF position was closed, and the profit was locked in.
The cash in the account increased to $960 million.
He turned off the terminal, stood up, and walked to the window.
The parking lot downstairs was already quite full. A workday had begun in Silicon Valley; programmers, backpacks on their shoulders, coffee in hand, walked into various office buildings.
Then he went back to his desk and opened the calendar. October 25th was circled in red, with the words: Beijing, Nebula Capital, Investor Meeting written next to it.
He flipped to November. There was already a mark there: November 10th, Star Technology Board of Directors, Mid-term Report on Data Center Project.
Turning the page further, in December: the first phase of the Nanjing University laboratory project was accepted.
My schedule is packed.
The phone rang again. This time it was the receptionist who transferred me in.
"Mr. Ling, there's a Mr. Khalid on the first floor who wants to meet with you today to discuss the details of the internet cafe equipment."
"Let him come up."
A minute later, Khalid walked into the office. He was wearing a suit today, not a robe, and was carrying a brown paper folder.
"Draft contract." He placed the folder on the table. "Three hundred sets of equipment for a computer store in Doha. Additionally, I'd like to add another one hundred sets to open a store in Dubai."
Lingyun opened the contract. The price terms, delivery time, payment method, and after-sales service were all clearly stated. The last page bore Khalid's signature, in both Arabic and English.
"When do you need the additional 100 sets?"
"Next January. The Dubai venue will be ready by December."
"Okay." Ling Yun took out a pen and signed in the "Party A" position. "Thirty percent prepayment, to be received within a week."
"It should arrive today." Khalid put away his contract. "There's one more thing. Some of my classmates from Cambridge are investing in London. They're interested in your system and would like to schedule a time to discuss it."
"When?"
"They're coming to Silicon Valley next month."
"Okay." Ling Yun noted it down. "Have your secretary and my secretary check the time."
Khalid stood up, shook hands, and left.
The office fell silent again. Ling Yun looked at the two contracts on the table: one was for the equipment purchase from Khalid, and the other was a schedule on the calendar.
We need to secure the money from Southeast Asia, start operating domestic funds, expand into the Middle Eastern market, and accelerate the development of our systems.
Microsoft is also keeping an eye on things.
He picked up his phone and dialed a third number.
"Carly, what's the progress of the Star Language project?"
"Registered users have surpassed 80,000. Last night's peak concurrent users reached 12,000." Carly's voice was quick. "We've discovered three serious bugs and are fixing them."
"Repair time?"
Before leaving get off work today.
"Okay. Also, prepare a technical briefing; investors from London are coming next month."
"What kind of briefing?"
"System architecture, technological advantages, and development roadmap."
"clear."
The phone hangs up.
Ling Yun sat back down in his chair and closed his eyes.
