Chapter 303 Guardians of the Frontier
Chapter 303 Guardians of the Frontier
Raffarin Law was always a soldier. Even in her time, becoming a soldier was incredibly simple. All it took was filling out a form on a holographic network, entering a consciousness-freezing virtual pod, and being tempered in a virtual world that recreated all of humanity's wars to date. Spending ten years in the virtual world and fourteen days in reality was enough to become a recruit.
But whether in the past or present, becoming a soldier means becoming a swordsman of violence, and the first lesson at the United Nations Star Sea Military Academy is the so-called "responsibility".
A soldier's duty is to protect the people, wherever they are. Their presence is both violence and protection. A qualified soldier should always remember his responsibility: to build the strongest defenses in the darkest corners of the universe and to hold the people's hands in the most difficult times.
She has never forgotten any of this. Just as she has done, for millennia she has guarded the legacy of the past, she has watched the growth of the new human civilization, and now she still remembers her duty.
The threat of the past has never gone away. On the surface of this planet, which has been permanently altered by the old humans, the vanguard of the old evil has never disappeared. Deep within the ruins, the interdimensional portal has been maintained for tens of thousands of years, constantly spitting out the claws and fangs of the past.
Some say that humans are a cursed race. Ever since Homo sapiens first forged tools and lit fire, violence has always haunted them. Humans vent their violence on each other, and even today, violence remains the only way to deal with the outside world.
A rumbling sound echoed across the planet, and a conflict beyond the imagination of anyone on this planet had been raging for years. It all began with an anti-alien fusion bomb, and Raffarin Low launched this battle called survival.
The nascent civilization was not yet capable of facing such a threat, a conclusion Raffarin Law had reached long ago. And Alice was hope, the hope of new life brought forth by the old.
She hopes that everything she has given will eventually transcend time and space, building a ladder for the survival of humanity.
The solution surrounded her body, and the tubes that delivered nutrients were connected to her body, while her thoughts collided with electronic signals, and a chessboard made of electron beams was right in front of her.
She saw on the other side of the chessboard, that unknown entity, silent and trembling, emanating an alien life force, becoming a node on the battlefield.
This is a game.
Remotely controlled troop carriers emerged from hidden caves, and beneath the ruins of former high-rise buildings, rows of combat robots slowly drove out. Under the control of sophisticated sensors and programs, tactical fusion weapons, concealed in the shadows using optical means, once again launched hypersonic tactical missiles carrying anti-alien intrusion agents into the distance.
In the sky, black aircraft exuding an aura of another dimension soared in formation, casting chaotic layers of magical energy to cover a slightly larger aircraft behind it. The larger aircraft was operating at full power, engaging in a counter-compilation operation against a magical electronic fighter protected by three stealth fighter squadrons.
Both sides were proceeding cautiously and with all their might. The maglev train carrying Raffarin Low and the intelligent core moved through the intricate underground tracks stretching for tens of kilometers. After being directly hit by Raffarin Low's anti-alien-space intrusion fusion bomb, the alien entity also learned to transfer the alien portal. The giant spider carried the portal and continued to travel through the vast ruins.
On the ground, the Gauss electromagnetic weapon continuously launched a wide variety of ammunition. A ceramic alloy armor-piercing round pierced the main armor belt of an alien magic war machine, leaving a formatted and recompiled magical language on its armor. It then continuously twisted its physical properties, eventually turning it into a cluster of hyacinth flowers.
The ammunition fired by the alien soldiers exploded upon hitting a group of combat robots. The surging alien properties continued to condense, eventually corroding the alloy combat robots, causing them to lose control of their programs, either shutting down on their own, turning into wreckage, or simply firing indiscriminately.
Throughout the battlefield, the two sides' battle lines intertwined. Raffarin Loe alone watched the battlefield on the chessboard, where red light flashed constantly, each point representing a battle, a victory, or a crushing defeat.
Amidst the fog of war, she pushed a unit representing an entire division forward. The point of light was then propelled forward by her hand, transforming into the rumbling dust in reality, into an entire advancing tank army, and ultimately into a battle.
Both sides proceeded cautiously. The entity from the alternate dimension seemed unwilling to expand the battle lines. The battlefield was limited to land and air, while the entity from the alternate dimension had not yet entered the ocean. However, Raffarin Lo, with his navy that circled the oceans to the east and west, was creating an asymmetrical advantage over the enemy in front of him.
"Why don't you go into the ocean...?"
Raffarin Low was constantly preoccupied with the question: why was the navy suffering losses in coastal waters while the enemy had not committed any navy to the battle, but instead sent fighter jets into the sky to attack her ships?
Raffarin Lau has already established a protective umbrella with a large number of air defense frigates, and on the outermost edge, a maritime defense circle consisting of floating docks and patrol boats has sealed off the entire sea area.
The war has continued to this point, and any battle exceeding its current intensity could expose this war to the global spotlight.
She didn't tell Alice that the war was torture for her. The two sides were evenly matched, and she managed to protect the exposed twelfth array server unit of the planetary computer by gradually gaining the upper hand in the battle. In doing so, she received the full support of the planetary computer's consciousness and was able to use the burgeoning computing power of this galactic wonder built by the ancient civilization.
By analyzing the campaign model and performing data-driven calculations, the answer becomes clear—eternity.
Even with such immense computing power, it's difficult to determine exactly how long it will take to end the war; the balance tipped to one side, only to immediately rise again.
She was all alone. She shared the computing power required to support the combat system. She added human entropy to the combat system, which those intelligent combat systems would never use for bold surprise attacks and countermeasures.
Two intelligent AIs are playing a game with no result. Both sides are playing according to an ideal model. The cold computing power and numbers will not change, but life will.
Raffarin Lowe did achieve initial success, but she increasingly realized that in this war, what she was facing was not cold intelligence, but intelligent life forms that also applied intelligent programs.
Both parties assigned the same variable.
Raffarin Low realized that perhaps she wasn't the variable, but an outsider, or rather, Alice was the variable. She focused her consciousness on an optical camera, where, under the starlight, cannonballs streaked across the sky into the distance.
It's been a long time since it rained, Raffarin thought.
