Chapter 32 The Siren Traveler
Chapter 32 The Siren Traveler
"Who are you?"
Alicia flapped her red bat wings, wielding a scythe and aiming it at the siren on the rock. With her blue hair and water-like face, she was undoubtedly the culprit in the legend who lured the drunken sailor into the ocean.
The siren continued to pluck the strings, while Alicia swung her scythe, a blood-red blade slicing through the air and shattering a piece of rock. Only then did the siren stop playing and slowly open her mouth.
"They're singing right in their own backyard, but you land dwellers, using the waters of the deep sea, want to fight the children of the deep?"
Alicia remained noncommittal, merely watching the Sirens warily. The Sirens gently plucked the strings, looking at Alicia with curiosity filling their sapphire blue eyes.
"You often accuse our harp of luring sailors into the sea, but have you ever considered that it's the harp's fault, not ours? The Sirens have no ill intentions. We don't want your treasure, and we don't eat human flesh or demons. We eat fish and shrimp."
Miss Siren sighed. The lives of sea creatures and land people are worlds apart, except that sea creatures can live on land, while land people cannot.
She only wanted a ride, but the siren's harp was a nightmare for sailors. She waited for ten years, but no ship stopped, let alone gave her a ride.
"I offer you my treasure in exchange for a ride."
"why?"
"I've seen too much of the underwater scenery; I want to see the land before I die."
Alicia wasn't interested in the treasures, but she suddenly thought of Alice. The little one would probably like a guest from the sea, since Alice had mentioned the ocean's resources many times, the oil and natural gas buried deep in the seabed, which Alice had once called "the lifeblood of industry."
"No playing music is allowed on the ship."
"Okay, okay?"
The siren bowed and waved, and the seawater rose as if it were alive. She walked lightly to the seabed and stepped onto the deck amidst the sailors' vigilance and trembling.
"Greetings, land people. I am Isa Tara, a Siren traveler. It is a pleasure to meet you, but unfortunately your heads will not allow me to play any tunes."
Everyone looked at Alicia, who nodded, indicating that it was safe.
"Drop your weapons, drop your weapons."
Yog Lat pressed down on the sailor's rifle and stepped forward to examine the Sirens. The Sirens were wearing a fitted gauze dress of unknown material, and the legendary fish tail was nowhere to be found. Instead, they had a pair of white legs, like those of a normal young girl.
"Now that you're on the ship, don't wander around. Stay on the ship and wait for me to come find you before we reach our destination, understand?"
"Ah, Miss Alicia, of course I understand, but could you please also bring me a bowl of fish soup?"
After escorting Miss Siren to her cabin to rest, Yog Latto approached Alicia and whispered, "Your Majesty, what is the reason for this?"
Alice will need her.
Yog Latto no longer had any doubts. After all, when Alice's name was mentioned, there was no way to deny it. Yog Latto had grown up on a ship since he was a child, but now even he found the revolutionary development of the Navy novel. All of this was thanks to her.
Miss Siren placed her carry-on luggage in the cabin, a small and cramped room, but much better than the beds for sailors, at least there was a folding table.
"May 2nd, 653, near the sea. I am overjoyed. After decades of waiting, a ship has finally given me a ride. Although I don't know where I'm going or when I'll arrive, at least I can reach land. According to the rules, I cannot go directly from the sea to the land. Now, I'm on a landman's ship, and I can reach land from the ship. I'm very happy. It's a pity that the ship's captain, that old loli, forbids me from playing music. But I'm currently safe and sound. I hope my travels on land can resolve the anomalies in the deep sea. Yours, Isa Tara."
Isabella wrote a letter on the fish-skin paper she carried with her using a whalebone pen, took out the letter-carrying fish she carried with her, put it in its mouth, and dripped a few drops of pheromones inside.
Messenger fish swim to the deep sea based on pheromones until they reach their destination. Both marine and terrestrial civilizations have developed numerous cities, and the characteristics of messenger fish have also been used for marine postal services.
The fish leaped into the sea and disappeared into the moonlight. Miss Sirens leaned against the boat, feeling tired from the dryness, but thankfully the Creator had given them the ability to survive on land.
The fleet continued sailing south. On the morning of May 3, 653, with a series of flag signals, the "Industrial," "Modern," and "Battle" parted ways. The "Battle," leading the Second Fleet, continued south towards the Atlantis Islands, while the "Industrial" and "Modern," leading six auxiliary gunboats and three auxiliary supply ships, sailed to Imperial Bay. During the War of Usurpation, the trade industry in Imperial Bay suffered a huge blow. Although it had recovered somewhat, the wounds of the war and the manipulation of the corrupt faction that usurped the throne meant that the shipping and trade industry in Imperial Bay had not yet recovered. Currently, the vast majority of ships were naval vessels—and of course, the undisciplined nature of medieval sailors filled the entire harbor with the smell of alcohol.
The lighthouse on one side of the harbor saw the arrival of the First Fleet almost immediately. Several ships billowing black smoke appeared on the sea. Then the lighthouse keeper saw the imperial flag on those ships. It wasn't the one in the palace now, but the one that had been driven to the north. For him, this scene was poignant, but he had a family back in the city. He thought about it.
The beacon fires were lit only after the fleet passed the lighthouse, and the bells in the harbor rang loudly. News of the old emperor's attack spread throughout the entire Royal Capital Port, and Admiral Byrd, who was in charge of the "Royal Navy," was awakened from his deck chair in the garden.
Alicia ordered the fleet to anchor at a distance where the cannons could reach the enemy fleet, with one side of the ships facing the target to maximize firepower. The 122mm Dahlgren guns on the foredeck and aft midmast were manually rotated, but the power of such massive cannons masked this weakness.
Three naval auxiliary vessels were included, two of which carried a company of naval infantry, four 12-pounder mountain howitzers, and the naval infantry were issued Minié rifles identical to those of the army, but the officers were reinforced with an M653 11.43mm revolver.
"Quickly! Disembark in an orderly manner!"
Two naval auxiliary vessels, which are miscellaneous ships purchased or captured by the navy, are positioned across the lighthouse. These ships are small boats of about 200 tons, each equipped with two 75mm Dahlgren guns on one side. They are responsible for protecting the capital ships and are currently positioned on one side of the line, parallel to the naval infantry landing area and perpendicular to the Type 90 escort ships.
"Distance 75 meters! Altitude 30 meters! Load grenades!"
"Roger! Gun position adjusted!"
The artillery observer used mathematical formulas to calculate the target. The lighthouse was teeming with enemies and had to be destroyed; this was the flagship's order.
"Gun position ready, awaiting orders!"
"Fire!"
"Fire!"
From the side, two naval auxiliary warships opened fire, their four 75mm Dahlgren guns spewing smoke as grenades flew in parabolic arcs toward the lighthouse.
