Chapter 5 Crisis
Chapter 5 Crisis
When Lezhi's fingers touched the moss, he received some information out of thin air, which clearly told him that the moss was non-toxic and edible.
With her brows furrowed and feeling utterly astonished, Lezhi hadn't expected that, in addition to the ability to identify plants, she would now discover that the shadowy figure had also gained the ability to identify plants. She wondered if this ability only applied to this type of plant or to all plants.
It seems obvious what needs to be done tomorrow.
While mentally planning to encounter more plants tomorrow, Lezhi's hands kept moving. He intended to pick and preserve all the edible moss and the moss that had been disturbed by the shadows. Now that he had a space, he could use these useless moss to test its functions.
When there was no more moss to pick, Lezhi patted the dirt off her hands and waved to the fur ball that was waiting patiently nearby.
"Okay, let's go."
"Chirp~"
After dealing with the aftereffects left by the shadowy figure, Lezhi, with the fur ball perched on his shoulder, returned to the cave they had entered through the same passage.
Having chosen a relatively clean corner, Lezhi used the dry grass he had gathered from the cave entrance to make a place where he could barely spend the night. Exhausted, he lay down to rest; he was utterly worn out by the day.
Fortunately, the temperature in the forest here is not low at night, and Lezhi has not felt cold yet, otherwise he would not know how to get through this long night.
Once her body relaxed, her mind began to think. Lezhi reached out and stroked the fluffy ball that was snuggling close to her ear. She spoke softly, "Fluffy ball, what species are you? You keep chirping, are you a bird?"
"Chirp~"
Although I couldn't understand what the fur ball was saying, its attitude of responding to every word was commendable. I rubbed the fur ball's head with my fingers, and Lezhi straightened its head to continue thinking about its own things.
In his previous life, he was just an ordinary person, decent-looking and academically competent, whose routine life was almost unchanging.
The last memory in his mind was that he was run over by a truck that had a blind spot while trying to save a child who had run into the road. Given the huge difference in size, Lezhi had no doubt that his previous body must have been completely dead, with no chance of recovery.
The cries and screams around him, along with the screeching of brakes, became the last sounds he heard in his memory.
Then, time seemed to move very slowly in his mind, yet it also seemed to move very quickly; he could no longer tell the difference.
Darkness descended quickly, and when he regained consciousness, he found himself here.
When Lezhi opened his eyes and saw that the surrounding plants were not familiar varieties, he already had a guess in his mind. The key was that the plants here were really too unique. Although he was a city kid, he did watch documentaries, you know.
No documentary has ever reported on towering vines; he's not blind.
Adding to the large bug and the furball that appeared later, and oh right, the eerie black shadow he had just seen, Lezhi's consciousness swept across the space he had just awakened and saw that the moss he had put in was still well-preserved inside, with fresh soil still attached. All of this made Lezhi almost certain that he was no longer in his original world.
Another 20% possibility is that Earth underwent a mutation, and he suddenly awoke for reasons unknown. This guess is even less plausible.
Raising her hand to touch her cheek, Lezhi recalled seeing her current appearance in the insect's pupils and chuckled bitterly. Silver hair and silver eyes—she didn't look like an ordinary person at all. It seemed that this time she had transmigrated into a different body than her original one.
Sitting up, Lezhi thought of something and opened her clothes to check herself. Her skin was as smooth as cream, white with a hint of pink, without a single flaw.
"Holy crap, what's going on..." Looking at the obviously underdeveloped male characteristics, Lezhi couldn't help but swear.
Annoyed, Lezhi pulled up her pants and muttered to herself before continuing to check her body. Thankfully, she had all her limbs, two eyes, a nose, and a mouth—at least she still looked like a human.
As for not finding the birthmark from her past life, Lezhi has come to terms with it.
It was simply to confirm that his current body was not the one he originally owned. Lezhi sighed, then cheered himself up.
Being able to start over is already a blessing; being picky and nitpicky is unacceptable.
Putting aside her physical concerns, Lezhi focused her attention on the clothes she was wearing.
This is a white short-sleeved shirt and shorts set. The material of the clothes feels very soft but also very durable. After a day of running around, the clothes only have some dirt on them. Although they look a bit sloppy, at least they are not torn.
She gently tugged at the bottom corner of her shirt. "Hmm, the material is quite nice."
After taking stock of all her belongings, Lezhi turned over, lay down, closed her eyes, and prepared to fall asleep.
Now that things have come to this, his primary task is to find a way to survive. Worrying about other things now is pointless, so he might as well go to sleep and conserve his energy to face tomorrow's challenges.
As Lezhi's breathing gradually became long and deep, the furry bird beside him quietly moved its body closer to Lezhi and closed its eyes. The two enjoyed a rare moment of peace.
Lezhi slept very well that night. When the morning sun shone down, the very punctual Maoqiu woke up first and then started the morning wake-up service.
Amidst the cheerful chirping of the fur ball, Lezhi slowly awoke, his consciousness returning instantly. He sat up and looked around the cave.
Seeing that Lezhi had already gotten up, Maoqiu turned off the alarm clock and took the lead in crawling out of the cave.
Driven by the fluffy ball's enthusiasm, Lezhi quickly got up and followed. Parting the thick vines, sunlight streamed in, illuminating Lezhi. Her silver hair and eyes, combined with her snow-white skin, made her seem to glow. Unfortunately, no one was there to appreciate this scene; only the oblivious little fluffy ball remained, perched high on a branch.
Seeing Lezhi following, Maoqiu spread its wings and took flight, following the pace of yesterday's journey, leading Lezhi deeper into the forest. Lezhi didn't know the growth cycle of these unknown plants, but after observation, most of them were lush and green, showing no signs of withering. Given the current temperature, at least for now, he wasn't worried about not finding food in the forest.
And that's exactly what happened. Yesterday, Lezhi was worried about accidentally ingesting poisonous things, but today he's got a cheat code. Whenever he sees a berry or plant that catches his eye, he touches it to make sure it's not poisonous and edible before picking it and putting it in his space.
From now on, Lezhi decided to stockpile some food in a planned manner, since he was now surviving alone in the jungle and needed to plan ahead.
Maoqiu wasn't impatient. Whenever Lezhi stopped collecting, Maoqiu would stop a short distance away, keeping a watchful eye on him. This made Lezhi feel more at ease while collecting in the forest.
He picked and ate as he went, filling his stomach halfway with the berries that were readily available in the forest. The berries were very sweet, so he was now a little thirsty.
Seemingly knowing what Lezhi lacked most, the fluffy ball immediately flapped its wings and flew away when it saw Lezhi get up and stop picking.
Lezhi didn't have time to make any requests and could only quickly follow. Maoqiu led the way, weaving through the forest in a maze of twists and turns. There were only plants all around, with no useful landmarks, and Lezhi soon became completely disoriented, unable to remember where they had come from.
Helpless, he followed closely behind the furry ball and continued forward. Just as he was about to give the furry ball a rest because his strength was running low, he heard the sound of flowing water.
It's a water source!
Realizing that Maoqiu was leading him to a water source, Lezhi immediately perked up. Ignoring his legs, which were starting to tremble, Lezhi held his breath and followed Maoqiu's steps.
As they slowly approached, the sound of flowing water grew stronger, and after parting the last patch of grass that was higher than his head, a clear stream appeared before Lezhi's eyes.
Maoqiu had already taken the lead and arrived at the stream, choosing a suitable spot to drink. Lezhi followed closely behind, stepping onto the stream and looking down at the water.
The face she had once glimpsed appeared in the reflection on the water's surface, but Lezhi had no interest in admiring it. Instead, she carefully observed the microorganisms in the water, making sure that there were no children visible to the naked eye. Only then did Lezhi reach out and tentatively place her hand into the water.
The stream was a little cooler than the perceived temperature, and its refreshing coolness dispelled some of the heat for Lezhi. The furry boy, who had already finished drinking, came to Lezhi's side and quietly watched his movements.
Seeing Maoqiu's urging gaze, Lezhi no longer hesitated. He scooped up a handful of water with both hands, brought it to his lips, and drank it down. The cool stream water flowed down Lezhi's throat into his stomach, soothing his body, which had been dehydrated for a long time.
Lezhi took several sips in a row until she could drink no more, at which point she stopped what she was doing.
Just then, a gentle breeze swept by, ruffling Lezhi's hair. The wind seemed to carry some message, instantly putting the previously peaceful furry ball on alert.
"Chirp~"
Lezhi turned around and found that Maoqiu's eyes were sharp and fixed on the distance. Even through the thick fur, he could see Maoqiu's tense body.
