Nirvana Heiress: Reborn and Returning to Stir Up a Storm

Chapter 368 Still Shining

Chapter 368 Still Shining

Night had fallen, but the city lights still shone brightly. Lin Chuyue and Li Zhanchuan stood on the rooftop terrace of the company building, overlooking the city's night view. The dazzling urban lights contrasted sharply with the gloom in their hearts.

Lin Chuyue leaned against the railing, her eyes unfocused, a complex web of emotions swirling within her, tightly binding her thoughts. At this moment, she felt as if she were standing in the eye of a storm, everything around her unreliable. Her father, the Gu family, even Li Zhanchuan, could all become victims of the dark forces behind the scenes. She knew all too well that every step she took would determine her future fate.

"Do you really believe what Gu Yanchuan said?" Li Zhanchuan suddenly broke the silence, looking at her sharply with a hint of provocation.

Lin Chuyue was slightly taken aback, then turned around, looked directly into his eyes, and a hint of hesitation flashed in her eyes: "What do you think?"

Li Zhanchuan remained silent for a moment, then a slight smile appeared on his lips, carrying a hint of coldness that seemed out of place in the atmosphere: "I believe his words, but I believe even more in our ability to control the situation."

"Control the situation?" Lin Chuyue chuckled, a hint of sarcasm in her eyes. "Do you think we can control anything right now? Shen Fang's death, Gu Yanchuan's warning—even he himself said there's someone bigger pulling the strings behind the scenes. Who can I trust anymore? Just because you made me believe we can turn the tables?"

Upon hearing this, Li Zhanchuan's expression darkened, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes. "Are you saying that I'm not worthy of your trust?"

Lin Chuyue's expression hardened, and a strong sense of unease suddenly welled up in her heart. She took a deep breath and tried to calm her voice: "That's not what I meant. It's just that sometimes, some things are more important than feelings. Nobody really knows what we can do."

These words stunned Li Zhanchuan. He didn't respond immediately, but instead looked at her with deep eyes. He had never seen her so shaken; this kind of unease seemed to be an area he wasn't good at.

“I know you’re afraid of losing.” Li Zhanchuan finally spoke, his voice low and deep, seemingly containing some indescribable emotion. “You’re afraid of losing your family, afraid of losing everything you have. But you have to understand, some things can’t be undone.”

Lin Chuyue didn't answer, but just gazed at the night sky, seemingly deep in thought. A voice kept calling out in her heart, but every time she tried to grasp it, reason dragged her back into the vortex of reality.

Just then, Lin Chuyue's phone rang again. This time, she saw the caller ID—it was her father, Lin Zhengguo.

Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly answered the phone: "Dad?"

Lin Zhengguo's voice came through the phone urgently: "Chuyue, listen to me, don't get involved in Shen Fang's matter for now. Things might be more complicated than you think."

"Dad, what do you mean?" Lin Chuyue's heart raced. She suppressed her anxiety and tried to find some clues from her father's tone.

"Don't ask too many questions. You'd better keep a low profile regarding the Gu family's affairs for now. I'll do my best to handle it." Lin Zhengguo's voice was full of secrecy and tension. "Don't worry, there's no need to worry about Shen Fang's death for now; things aren't clear yet."

"Dad, what's unclear? What do you know?" Lin Chuyue couldn't help but raise her voice, a chill creeping into her heart. "What are you hiding?"

"I have nothing to hide." Lin Zhengguo's voice turned low on the other end of the phone. "I'm just dealing with some things that are more complicated than you think. You should rest now and not get involved anymore."

The call was abruptly disconnected. Lin Chuyue gripped her phone, her mind filled with unresolved questions. She knew that her father's silence often concealed a greater secret. She hadn't yet figured everything out, yet her father was already warning her to let go. Was it really all so simple?

When Li Zhanchuan saw her hang up the phone, he raised an eyebrow slightly, clearly realizing that things were not as simple as they thought.

"What did he say?" Li Zhanchuan asked, his tone carrying a rare hint of concern.

“He said that Shen Fang’s matter wasn’t as complicated as we thought.” Lin Chuyue’s tone remained calm, but the suppressed emotions made her voice choke up. “He said that there are some things I shouldn’t get involved in.”

"What is he hiding?" Li Zhanchuan frowned, his suspicions growing stronger. "Your father never says such things lightly. Shen Fang's death was definitely not accidental."

Lin Chuyue took a deep breath, looked up at him, her gaze resolute. "I know. We must find out the secret behind Father as soon as possible, otherwise, it will be too late."

Li Zhanchuan nodded, his gaze as sharp as a cheetah's. "I will speed up the investigation. Tonight, we must obtain more clues."

At that moment, Lin Chuyue suddenly remembered Gu Yanchuan's words. He reminded her not to easily trust anyone, especially those who seemed close to her.

“Li Zhanchuan,” she suddenly spoke, “do you think Gu Yanchuan would deliberately create these situations? When he reminded us to avoid the dark forces behind us, was he genuinely concerned about us, or was he using us?”

Li Zhanchuan looked at her with deep eyes, and after a long while, he replied in a low voice, "His words are worth being wary of, but he may be right about some things. We need him now, and perhaps the only option is to trust him."

Lin Chuyue felt a heavy weight on her shoulders. She understood that the more choices they had, the more complicated the situation became, and every decision could potentially change their fate.
