Chapter 138 Unusual Movements Detected
Lin Chuyue's life seemed to be on track, but shadows still lingered. Although Shen Fang had gone abroad, the pawns she left behind had not been eliminated, and Lin Chuyue's keen intuition gradually sensed something amiss. At the same time, Li Zhanchuan's concern became increasingly apparent, and his companionship brought Lin Chuyue a long-lost warmth, but danger was quietly approaching like an undercurrent.
It was late at night, and only the soft light of her desk lamp illuminated Lin Chuyue's office. A stack of documents lay before her. As she reviewed them, she casually glanced at recent security department records and reports. Suddenly, an inconspicuous document caught her eye.
She stared at a surveillance video marked "equipment malfunction," her fingers tapping lightly on the folder, her brow furrowed slightly. She randomly clicked on the corresponding time period's recording, only to find that the surveillance footage suddenly cut off within a few specific minutes.
"Equipment malfunction?" she muttered to herself, her gaze sharpening. She was familiar with the company's surveillance equipment, which had just been upgraded recently, making a malfunction virtually impossible.
She quickly pulled up surveillance footage from other areas during the same time period. The images were clear and smooth, but one spot showed an anomaly. This detail made her heart skip a beat, and her alert nerves instantly tightened.
Lin Chuyue picked up her phone and dialed Gu Yanchuan's number.
"It's so late, what's wrong?" Gu Yanchuan's voice was somewhat tired, but still showed concern.
“There’s a problem with the company’s surveillance system.” Lin Chuyue’s tone was calm and clear. “A certain recording was interrupted for a few minutes. The security department said it was an equipment malfunction, but I don’t think that’s right. Could you help me check the technical department’s feedback?”
Gu Yanchuan was silent for a moment on the other end of the phone, then said seriously, "Okay, I'll arrange for someone to investigate tomorrow morning. Don't alert anyone else yet."
"Okay." Lin Chuyue hung up the phone, leaned back in her chair, and stared intently at the screen, seemingly trying to find clues in those few short minutes of silence.
As night deepened, the lights in the company's monitoring room remained on. Li Hao sat alone in front of his computer, the screen's light reflecting on his face, revealing a hidden tension. He rapidly typed on the keyboard, deleting some sensitive data and copying a video backup to an inconspicuous USB drive.
After putting the USB drive into the drawer compartment, he took a deep breath and muttered to himself, "I can only follow President Shen's orders... but Lin Chuyue is becoming more and more difficult to deal with."
To conceal his actions, he acted diligently every day, even volunteering to work overtime, but a sense of unease lingered in his heart. Lin Chuyue's intelligence and vigilance made him feel like he was walking on thin ice.
Early in the morning, Lin Chuyue didn't choose to wait leisurely; she went straight to the security department with the documents. The moment she pushed open the door, everyone's eyes turned to her.
"Is Manager Wang here?" Lin Chuyue stood at the door, her tone calm but leaving no room for argument.
A security department employee cautiously replied, "Manager Wang is on leave today. But you can look for Li Hao; he's been in charge of maintaining the surveillance system recently."
"Is that so?" Lin Chuyue's gaze swept lightly over the crowd, finally landing on an inconspicuous man.
Li Hao responded and stood in front of her, bowing slightly in politeness: "President Lin, what can I do for you?"
Lin Chuyue handed him the document, her tone calm: "I heard there was a problem with the surveillance equipment. I'd like to know the details."
Li Hao took the document, glanced at it carefully, and then looked up to reply, "Yes, there was a short circuit in the wiring a few days ago, which caused the monitoring to be interrupted. However, the technical department has fixed it, and everything is back to normal now."
Lin Chuyue nodded slightly, her tone carrying a hint of meaning: "The equipment was just upgraded recently, so it shouldn't be this easy to have problems, right? What did the technical department say about it?"
Li Hao's hand tightened almost imperceptibly over the document, but he quickly regained his composure. His smile remained: "The technical department's feedback is that the voltage is unstable, which is likely an accident. President Lin, there's no need to worry."
Lin Chuyue didn't press further, but simply smiled faintly: "I hope there won't be any similar accidents next time."
That evening, Lin Chuyue told Li Zhanchuan about the unusual situation at the security department. Under the lamplight, his brows were furrowed, and a hint of worry showed in his deep eyes.
"You suspect the surveillance cameras have been manipulated?" Li Zhanchuan leaned back on the sofa, his fingers lightly tapping his knees.
"There's no evidence yet, but the gap of a few minutes is too coincidental." Lin Chuyue's voice was calm. "Although Shen Fang has left, it's impossible for her to have completely removed all her people."
Li Zhanchuan pondered for a moment, then said in a low but firm tone, "I will arrange for someone to investigate the background of this Li Hao, as well as the other people in the security department. Since Shen Fang wants to leave a hidden danger, I will remove it for you."
Lin Chuyue turned to look at him, her eyes filled with complex emotions. She had originally intended to bear it all alone, but Li Zhanchuan's attitude filled her heart with an indescribable warmth.
"Thank you, Li Zhanchuan," she said softly.
Li Zhanchuan smiled gently, his tone calm yet powerful: "No need to thank me, your business is my business."
Late at night, Li Hao returned home and opened an encrypted email. The email contained only one short sentence: "The plan has been moved up; she's already starting to suspect you."
Upon seeing this, Li Hao's heart sank, and cold sweat broke out on his palms. He knew this meant he had to speed up his actions, otherwise Lin Chuyue would definitely notice something amiss.
“She’s too smart,” he muttered through gritted teeth, “but I won’t let her win.”
As night fell, Lin Chuyue sat by the bedroom window, a cup of warm lemon tea in her hand, her gaze fixed on the city lights outside. She sighed softly, her mind swirling with countless thoughts.
Everything that had happened these past few days made her realize that the real battle was far from over. Shen Fang's defeat was just the beginning, and she needed to be calmer and more decisive than ever before.
Li Zhanchuan's image appeared in her mind; his firm gaze and warm smile made her lips curl up slightly.
"Perhaps I'm not fighting alone anymore," she murmured, a glimmer of light appearing in her eyes.
