Chapter 91 Complex Feelings
Chapter 91 Complex Feelings
After the auction, Lin Chuyue returned home and sat by the floor-to-ceiling window in her study. Outside, the night sky was dotted with stars, but her thoughts were far from calm. Li Zhanchuan's gentle care and his words, "If you're tired, you can lean on me," lingered in her mind.
She had never imagined she could feel such delicate emotions for anyone, especially after a lifetime of betrayal and indifference. Yet, the feeling of being moved was undeniable; even with her deliberate restraint, those moments still stirred ripples in her heart.
At the same time, she was also aware of Li Zhanchuan's identity and his ruthless methods. A man like that would never easily fall for anyone. But what would be the consequences if he did fall in love?
Lin Chuyue rubbed her temples and chuckled to herself, "Lin Chuyue, you've been through so much, how can you still be troubled by something like this?"
However, her gaze unconsciously fell on a cup of coffee on the desk, which Li Zhanchuan had specially brought for her. This made the corners of her mouth turn up slightly, but she quickly pursed her lips.
The next morning, as soon as Lin Chuyue entered the office, she saw Li Zhanchuan already standing at the door, holding an exquisite package.
"Good morning." His tone was low and gentle, and his gaze towards her carried a profound meaning that could not be ignored.
Lin Chuyue frowned slightly: "President Li, is there something you need so early?"
Li Zhanchuan didn't answer, but handed her the breakfast: "You were busy all day yesterday, you probably didn't have time to eat properly this morning, right?"
Lin Chuyue took the bag, which contained a warm latte and a sweet chestnut cake. A warm feeling welled up inside her, but she maintained a polite distance: "President Li is really well-informed."
Li Zhanchuan leaned against the door frame, his gaze fixed on her: "Caring about you doesn't need many reasons."
Lin Chuyue was stunned and looked up at him. She had never seen Li Zhanchuan like this before—gentle, direct, and even with a touch of domineering that she couldn't refuse.
“Thank you,” she whispered, then looked away. “But I don’t want too much special treatment, after all, I need to focus on my work.”
Li Zhanchuan didn't say anything more, but just curled the corners of his mouth and gave her a meaningful look: "Okay, then I'll wait until you're done."
Lin Chuyue knew that there were too many meanings hidden behind his words.
Meanwhile, another family gathering is underway.
Gu Yanchuan, unusually, took a break from work to accompany his parents to a gathering of relatives and friends. The gathering was held in an elegantly decorated courtyard restaurant, where green plants and flowers adorned the courtyard, creating a vibrant and warm atmosphere.
As Luo Yurou walked into the courtyard arm in arm with her mother, she immediately attracted everyone's attention. She wore a light purple dress, which made her look gentle and charming, like a painting.
Mother Gu greeted her with a smile and took Luo Yurou's hand: "Yurou, it's been so long! You've become more and more beautiful!"
Luo Yurou replied with a smile, "Auntie, you still look so young and have a great complexion."
Mother Gu's gaze swept back and forth between Luo Yurou and Gu Yanchuan, her face full of smiles: "Yanchuan, why don't you come over and chat with Yurou? You two used to play together all the time when you were little."
Gu Yanchuan walked to Luo Yurou's side and nodded slightly: "Yurou, how have you been lately?"
Luo Yurou gave a shy smile: "It's fine, but I heard you're very busy with work, and I was afraid of bothering you."
Gu Yanchuan's tone softened a bit: "I'm busy with work, but I still need to make time to chat with my friends."
The two sat in a corner of the courtyard. As the conversation deepened, Luo Yurou's voice became increasingly cheerful, and a hint of joy shone in her eyes. Gu Yanchuan, looking at the gentle and lovely girl before him, felt a long-lost sense of relaxation.
“Brother Yanchuan,” Luo Yurou said softly, “I really admire you for being able to handle so much pressure with such ease. Sometimes I wonder, does someone like you never feel tired?”
Gu Yanchuan was taken aback by his words, then chuckled softly: "Everyone gets tired, it's just that I'm not used to showing it."
Luo Yurou looked at him, her eyes softening with tenderness: "If you ever get tired, I hope to be someone who can help you relax."
Gu Yanchuan was speechless for a moment, but looked at her with a touch of gentleness in his eyes.
Late at night, Lin Chuyue's phone rang; it was a message from Gu Yanchuan.
"Are you free? We need to talk about the engagement."
Lin Chuyue stared at the screen, remained silent for a moment, and finally replied: "Tomorrow morning then."
After putting down her phone, she went to the balcony and gazed at the starry night sky, her feelings a complex mix. In the past, her relationship with Gu Yanchuan had been simple, almost cold; now, however, they were both slowly heading down their own paths. And their status as engaged couple had become an invisible constraint.
She murmured softly, "Perhaps it's time to end this."
The next morning, Lin Chuyue and Gu Yanchuan met in the reception room.
Gu Yanchuan cut to the chase: "Chuyue, I think our engagement should come to an end."
Lin Chuyue raised an eyebrow: "You finally brought it up."
Gu Yanchuan gave a bitter smile: "I was deceived for too long before, and only now do I realize that this marriage was unfair to both of us. You deserve to have your own life."
Lin Chuyue sighed softly, her tone calm: "That's what I think too. Actually, our relationship no longer needs an engagement to maintain it, does it?"
Gu Yanchuan nodded: "No need. From the beginning, this was just a decision made by our parents."
They looked at each other and smiled, a smile filled with no regret, only relief. The understanding between them had transcended the definition of an engaged couple, becoming a deeper level of trust.
Just as the two were about to continue discussing the details, the conference room door was gently pushed open, and Luo Yurou walked in with a cup of coffee, a gentle smile on her face: "Excuse me, did I disturb you?"
Lin Chuyue looked up, her gaze now more scrutinizing. Gu Yanchuan stood up, took the coffee, and said gently, "No, we've finished talking."
Luo Yurou turned her gaze to Lin Chuyue and smiled politely: "Sister Chuyue, I heard you've been busy with the company's restructuring lately. You must be working hard."
Lin Chuyue smiled calmly: "Everyone works hard, especially the people around President Gu."
Her words carried a hidden meaning, but her tone was devoid of hostility. Luo Yurou was slightly taken aback, then smiled and said, "Then I will work harder to share President Gu's burdens in the future."
Lin Chuyue stood up, picked up the documents, and said, "Then I'll be going now. I wish you all the best in your work."
After leaving the meeting room, her steps remained composed, but a complex emotion flickered in her eyes. She wasn't jealous, but rather struck by the realization that past ties were gradually fading, while new feelings were quietly blossoming…
