Chapter 274 - 272: Blinded by Love
Chapter 274 - 272: Blinded by Love
Mia Grant fell silent.
Yuri Sinclair noticed her expression but didn’t regret what he had said.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you."
"But I thought it would be better to be honest with you."
"This way, you can make a better-informed decision."
He knew very well that Mia Grant was still observing him, and he didn’t mind.
"This matter certainly requires careful consideration, so I won’t rush you into a decision."
"In the end..." Yuri Sinclair paused for a long moment before continuing, "Even if we don’t formally acknowledge our relationship, it’s okay."
"I can see that you’re very happy right now, and more or less carefree. So for you, there’s really no need to come back. That’s why I respect your decision."
"Of course, that doesn’t mean we have to cut all ties."
"In the future, if you want to, you can come back anytime."
"I’m truly speaking from the heart."
"Originally, I wanted to bring you back. I know you’ve been through a lot with the Grant Family over the years, and I really wanted you to return to us."
"But lately, after seeing your life, I’ve been trying to look at this from your perspective."
"So, I completely understand your feelings."
After he finished, Mia Grant nodded lightly. "You’re really not like the rumors say you are."
Yuri Sinclair smiled as well. "One has to make their own judgments. Everyone sees things from a different angle, so their views will naturally differ. It’s not necessarily a matter of right or wrong."
Mia Grant continued to nod, but this time she said nothing.
She was thinking.
’If Yuri Sinclair had agreed to divorce Gwen York sooner and hadn’t kept pestering her... maybe Gwen wouldn’t have risked eloping, and then this whole chain of events would have never happened.’
’It was hard for her to say who was right and who was wrong.’
’After all, Gwen York was no longer around.’
’She wasn’t directly involved, so she couldn’t judge anyone from on high.’
But she did make a strange discovery—some things seemed to be connected in some way.
"When she left back then, did she ever think about taking me with her?"
"Perhaps."
Mia Grant hummed in response.
’She wondered, if Gwen York had taken the young girl with her, would that girl’s future have been... just like hers.’
SIGH.
’It seemed there was a reason the System had chosen her, after all.’
’As if guided by fate, they had so much in common.’
Once the coffee was finished, Mia Grant made her decision.
"I can acknowledge you as my father, but I don’t want to go back to Portia for now. I also don’t want you to interfere in my life—and I mean in any aspect."
Yuri Sinclair was taken aback for a moment, then he smiled and nodded. "Of course."
"There’s always an adjustment period. It’s best to take things slow and not force yourself. For me, this outcome is already more than I could have hoped for."
As he finished speaking, Yuri Sinclair handed her a small envelope.
She opened it. Inside was a bank card and a key.
"This is for a house inside the Second Ring Road. It’s not much, but please stay there for now. I’ve already had people start looking for a place closer to your school. I’ll buy a new one for you then, so it’ll be more convenient for you to get to class."
"There will be a housekeeper there to take care of your meals and daily needs. You should move in first. It’ll be more comfortable to spend the New Year in a home. And don’t worry, aside from the housekeeper, no one will show up to bother you."
Staring at the key for a long time, Mia Grant heaved a long sigh. "For the New Year... if it’s convenient, could you ask Carla Sinclair to come over?"
"Let’s have a meal together."
Yuri Sinclair looked at her, a little surprised.
"Do you have any dietary restrictions?" Mia Grant asked, scrolling through her phone. "What about Carla?"
"Any preferences on the type of cuisine?"
He smiled, gratified. "I’m fine with anything. You two sisters can talk it over. It’ll be more effective coming from you than from me."
"Is that so?"
Mia Grant didn’t rush to call Carla Sinclair. Instead, she thought of someone else. "Then... what about that person?"
It wasn’t that she was being rude; she just didn’t know what to call him.
They had been talking for so long, and she had completely forgotten that besides the three of them, there was another figure in the picture.
Ms. York’s illegitimate son.
"If you don’t mind, you can invite him to come along."
He could see that Mia Grant wasn’t strongly opposed to the idea.
Mia Grant frowned. "I... don’t really mind. And I can see that you don’t seem to mind either. But isn’t Carla not very fond of him?"
Yuri Sinclair nodded. "There is some friction between them, but it’s not as serious as you might think."
"Then I’ll ask her later."
Mia Grant was about to leave, but she thought of something and sat back down.
"Um, there’s something I wanted to talk to you about."
"Go ahead."
"For the time being, I’d rather other people not know about my connection to the Sinclair Family."
"I understand."
"And also..." Mia Grant hesitated, then thought better of it. "Let’s talk about it later."
Yuri Sinclair smiled and nodded.
Later that day, Carla Sinclair called her back.
She was also a little surprised by Mia Grant’s suggestion to have dinner together for the New Year.
"But... aren’t you and... him, not on the best of terms?"
It took Carla Sinclair a moment to realize who she was talking about. "No, it’s fine. I’ll go with him."
"Are you sure that’s okay?"
"Yeah. You don’t have to worry. His personality is a lot like Father’s; he’s not that hard to get along with."
"Okay." Mia Grant had met the man once before and agreed that he was very humble.
After a pause, Carla Sinclair asked, "Have you been in contact with Silas Grant recently?"
Mia Grant shook her head instinctively, but then, remembering they were on the phone, she quickly said, "No. Why?"
"It’s nothing."
Carla Sinclair was usually blunt and disliked beating around the bush. But with this sister... she was forced to learn a bit of tact.
Mia Grant knew her personality, so hearing her stop mid-sentence only made her more curious.
"It’s fine, you can just say whatever is on your mind."
"Are you two planning to get together?"
...
Mia Grant froze.
"Why would you ask that?"
"The obstacle between you two is gone now. If you have feelings for him, you don’t have to hold back anymore."
The old man was dead.
Mia Grant knew that, it was just...
"No."
Carla Sinclair didn’t understand. She could sense that Mia had feelings for Silas Grant.
Whether it was love, she couldn’t be entirely sure, but there was definitely some affection there.
For some reason, Carla Sinclair’s thoughts drifted to that other man.
"There was a man with the surname Qi... I can’t remember his full name."
"Yates Donovan?"
"Yes." Carla asked, "Is he your boyfriend?"
"..." Mia Grant’s mouth fell open. "Huh? Who told you that?"
"He did."
...
Mia Grant was stunned again.
"Were those his exact words?"
"Yes. He gave me a very serious self-introduction. I looked into it. You two had an engagement before, but it’s not valid anymore."
"Right."
"Then he was lying to me. That man doesn’t seem like a simple character."
Mia Grant scratched her ear awkwardly. ’How was she supposed to explain this?’
’That Yates Donovan, always causing trouble for her.’
"Anyway, you don’t need to have a problem with him. He just seems a little... roguish, but as a person... he’s actually very nice."
"He’s very kind."
"Kind...?" Carla Sinclair recalled the information she had dug up, feeling that her little sister was acting like a naive girl completely blinded by love.
