Chapter 123: Enrollment
I forgot to calculate the date; I never expected it to be like a raging torrent, with water flowing merrily below.
Clenching your fingers, this indescribable feeling is...it makes you want to smash something.
"Brother Lu! Brother Lu?" She sat in her seat, not daring to move. Her heart was pounding, and she was afraid that if she stood up, things would get even more exciting.
After gathering his strength and shouting three times, Lu Yu finally appeared.
He rushed into the room and immediately came over to Ji Meiqing, anxiously asking, "What's wrong? Is something the matter?"
"I..." She lowered her head, trying not to let him see her blushing embarrassment. She closed her eyes, steeled herself, and said, "Please get me a menstrual pad, thank you."
Lu Yu paused, his ears turning bright red, before asking softly, "Where did you put it?"
"It was pressed under the clothes in the third compartment of the wardrobe over there."
Lu Yu followed her instructions and searched for it, and indeed found it. Holding the strip of cloth, he didn't know where to look.
"And could you also get me a coat?" she added.
Lu Yu went back and took the coat that was lying on the chair from her, along with the menstrual slip.
"Is there anything else you need?" he asked her with concern.
"No need, I can handle the rest myself."
She lay slumped on the table, her face filled with despair.
Lu Yu slowly left the room, went to the kitchen and found Granny Mei. He hesitated for a moment before walking over.
"Excuse me, what should a woman do when she gets her period?" he asked humbly, following behind her.
Upon hearing this, Granny Mei's face immediately wrinkled, and she smiled and said, "What, is Madam having her period?"
"Um……"
Upon his admission, Grandma Mei laughed even harder. "Women should avoid cold during their menstrual period. As long as you prevent cold air from entering your body and also regulate your blood and qi, it won't be a big problem."
"Is it really that simple?" Lu Yu was still somewhat skeptical.
Grandma Mei looked at him, not in a hurry to explain, but said, "Wait here first, I'll cook something for you and you can take it to Madam."
"Well... I'll have to trouble you then."
She chuckled twice. "No trouble at all. You can wait outside for a bit, I'll bring it out in a bit."
Lu Yu sat outside, bathed in the bright moonlight.
Ji Meiqing wrapped her clothes around herself and then carefully went to the outhouse.
Her clothes were already dirty, so she quickly changed into her menstrual pad. This thing was troublesome; it required many, many layers to wrap around her.
Fortunately, she didn't have many clothes on her, so after changing, she quickly put them on and returned to the room next door.
She wiped the chair with herbal tea until she could no longer smell any odor before getting up.
The table was tidied up, and she walked towards the bed while yawning. She sat on the bed and then slowly moved to the inside of the bed.
Lu Yu knocked on the door, his voice neither too loud nor too soft. Ji Meiqing glanced at him and said lazily, "Come in. The door's open..."
A person came in from outside, carrying a bowl of hot, red soup; it was unclear what it was.
The lighting was dim, making it difficult to see clearly. But the aroma was so familiar. She stared at the bowl, and as soon as he approached, she ran inside.
"Don't give it to me, I won't drink it." She held out her hand directly, refusing very firmly.
Seeing her resistance, Lu Yu couldn't help but say gently, "Drink it, it will be better for you."
“I’m allergic,” she said righteously. “If I drink this, I’ll probably be going to meet the King of Hell.”
"Don't say that, it's good for you."
"I already told you I'm allergic." When she got angry, her voice rose.
Lu Yu was taken aback.
Ji Meiqing hugged the blanket, glanced at him timidly, and then fell silent.
After a long silence, Ji Meiqing couldn't help but speak up and explain: "Everyone's constitution is different. Some things are very nourishing for you, but for me they are like poison. This is an allergy. To put it bluntly, it's just that the body and the food are incompatible."
Lu Yu looked at the brown sugar and eggs in the bowl, somewhat regretfully, "Even eggs won't do?"
"It's not that it's impossible, but these two are already together. Do you think I would still eat them?" She shrugged, looking at him as if he were a monster.
Lu Yu took the bowl back; the red soup reflected his face. A silence fell over the room. Ji Meiqing couldn't stand it any longer, hastily adjusting the blankets before lying down, her tone somewhat perfunctory, "I'm going to sleep. You should get some rest too."
"I won't bother you anymore." He stood by the bed again, hesitated for a moment, and then slowly left.
Because she had to take him to school, Ji Meiqing got up early despite feeling tired.
She changed her menstrual pad and then got dressed. She planned to buy him two steamed buns and dumplings for breakfast. There were many people giving gifts to their children on the way, but Ji Meiqing stood out in the crowd.
A sixteen or seventeen-year-old girl was taking a twelve-year-old boy to school. Upon reflection, she realized it wasn't a big deal. So those gazes lingered on her for a moment before disappearing.
A crowd had gathered around the roadside stall. After paying, they grabbed the steamed buns and hurried off with him.
After they reached the top of the mountain, Ji Meiqing took him directly to the back courtyard. That was where the teachers rested. Ji Meiqing gave a brief introduction to the people from yesterday.
The teacher looked at Ji Tianci with no trace of kindness or gentleness in his eyes. He simply stared at him with a serious, expressionless face and asked, "What books have you read?"
"Never." Ji Tianci was also led by example and became serious.
"Then let's start from the beginning, like when we first enrolled. Have you prepared any books?" he asked again.
Ji Meiqing sat to one side, watching them ask and answer questions, but did not participate.
"Never."
"...Why not prepare?"
"I didn't know what to prepare, so I didn't go to buy anything. Now that we've arrived, may I ask what we should buy, Master?" Ji Meiqing replied.
The teacher's gaze was sharp, yet tinged with sarcasm as he looked at her. Ji Meiqing pretended not to notice and continued sitting to the side.
"Then let's do it this way. Let's start with the school. As for the books, it would be best if they were sent over immediately."
Ji Meiqing nodded slightly. "Thank you."
At the same time, he nudged Ji Tianci, who was quick-witted and understood immediately, bowing deeply to the teacher.
Unfortunately, he didn't really accept it; instead, he got up and walked past them. Ji Meiqing nudged him again, and this time he wasn't so quick-witted.
“Go, follow him. He will take you to the school. I’ll go down and buy you some books, and I’ll be right back,” Ji Meiqing said softly, her tone unusually gentle.
Ji Tianci, being sensible, went with him.
It was rare to find the room empty, so Ji Meiqing glanced around and then left.
