Chapter 322: Feast for Everyone
Chapter 322: Feast for Everyone
"Grandpa. People like this won’t understand unless you’re direct with them. Having them loiter here when they have no intention of accepting the request is a nuisance. And if the guild shows favoritism just because they’re strong, then the guild itself won’t survive."
"Hah? The hell did you just say, brat?"
Sarin and the others had probably been trying to avoid causing a scene, but even if they gave in here, the men would only become more full of themselves and repeat the same behavior again.
If that was the case, then correcting their mistake and breaking their arrogance before it grew worse was also an option.
The men’s sneering smiles vanished as they turned hostile glares toward Qiong Xing who had suddenly inserted himself into the conversation.
"Isn’t that right? Why do you think the reward amount is listed in the first place? If you want higher pay that badly, then negotiate with the client yourselves or produce results beyond what’s required. Demanding extra money for nothing is just fraud."
"The hell are you talking to?!"
To you, obviously?
Did they really think he was talking to someone completely unrelated while looking directly at them?
Idiots, as a rule, rarely listened to what other people were saying.
"If it looks like I’m talking to someone other than you, then that’s a serious problem and you should probably see a doctor."
Qiong Xing genuinely struggled to understand why they kept asking who he was talking to.
The fact that they were angry meant they already knew he was talking about them.
"That’s right. No matter what you say, we won’t be changing our position now or ever. If you can’t accept that, then not only this guild but this country would be perfectly fine with you leaving. Let me be clear. This guild has other Rank A adventurers. They’re all cooperative people, so we have no need for people like you."
"Ghh... Fine! We’re leaving!"
With that, the men turned to go.
As they passed by, one of them reached out toward Qiong Xing who was standing near the entrance.
But there was no way Albe would silently watch that happen.
The hand was slapped away before it could even touch Qiong Xing.
They were troublesome people right to the very end.
"Trying to use violence because you couldn’t win the argument only makes you look small."
Ignoring Qiong Xing’s warning, the men continued shouting something as they finally left the guild.
The room fell silent.
As Qiong Xing looked around, wondering what to do next, something warm suddenly wrapped around him in an embrace.
"Are you hurt!?"
Katarina had rushed over in concern.
Qiong Xing assured her he was fine, then immediately asked whether she was alright instead.
She laughed and hugged him again.
"The only people who worry about me are Sarin and you. I’m just glad you’re safe. I know you did it for my sake, but don’t go picking fights and putting yourself in danger so easily."
Those men had undoubtedly taken notice of him, but to be honest, Qiong Xing had never thought he would lose to them.
That was exactly why he had spoken up.
Unfortunately, Katarina and the others didn’t know that, so he had caused them a great deal of worry.
As Katarina hugged him and said she was glad he was unharmed, the warmth of her hands reminded him a little of his late mother’s.
"I’m fine. More importantly, aren’t you tired? Aren’t you hungry? The guild’s empty after that commotion anyway, so why don’t we close for lunch today and have a meal together? The soy sauce I ordered is finally finished, and I’d like everyone to try it and tell Roland what they think of the taste."
"That’s true. Hearing opinions directly would be a tremendous help to me as well."
With Roland backing him up, Katarina finally nodded and agreed.
Not only Qiong Xing, but every guild employee raised their hands and cheered.
...
"Delicious!"
"What is this? It’s amazing!"
"This is insanely good!"
Everyone was surprised and once they started eating, they couldn’t stop.
Originally, Qiong Xing had only planned to eat with Katarina and the others.
However, after everything that had happened, the group had grown so large that there wasn’t time to prepare anything elaborate, so he decided on grilled meat.
The guild’s backyard wasn’t very large, but they borrowed it anyway.
When Qiong Xing asked everyone to help prepare the grills, they happily volunteered.
While everyone else was busy, Qiong Xing worked on what he considered the most important part of grilled meat: the sauce.
He knew roughly what ingredients were needed, but not the exact proportions, so he adjusted the flavor together with Albe and Roland until they were satisfied.
Seeing everyone enjoy themselves seemed to please Roland immensely as well.
He was already talking excitedly about selling the sauce too.
"Thank you for your hard work. We’ll take over here, so please go eat as well."
"Huh? N-no, um... I couldn’t. This is my job."
Qiong Xing had offered to take over for a beastman man who had been busy serving dishes and tending to everyone’s needs.
The man looked completely caught off guard by the suggestion and began fumbling nervously.
"Then you can switch back after you’ve finished eating. Food like this is best when it’s fresh off the grill. Go enjoy it with your companions."
Apparently understanding what Qiong Xing was trying to do, Albe also stepped in and took over for some of the other beastmen.
"It’s only a short break. Here, have a seat. Go on."
Even then, they remained hesitant, so Qiong Xing handed them a plate piled high with grilled meat along with the sauce.
"Everyone has their own preferences, but if you don’t eat, nobody can keep going forever, right? It’s important to eat whenever you have the chance."
"That’s right. You can switch back later. Eat first."
Only after Katarina spoke did they finally nod and begin eating with their fellow beastmen.
