Chapter 219 Entertainment Activities
Inside the courtyard, Lu Xue and Chi Miaomiao arranged the stools.
In the middle was a large wooden table, with fruit and a ceramic stove. After lighting the fire, Cheng Cuo placed the hot pot with the broth on it.
In the sweltering summer, who could resist gathering with a few close friends for a hot pot meal, along with some stir-fried side dishes?
The basket contained washed cabbage, cilantro, chives, enoki mushrooms, dried bean curd sticks, tripe, pork belly, and more.
Wait until the broth is bubbling and boiling before adding it little by little to cook it.
With a "ding," the rice cooker switched to green, and just then, the side dishes were cooked, looking and smelling delicious, whetting the appetites of everyone present.
Qiqi and Qiqi's mouths watered at the aroma, but they still sat obediently on their little stools.
As soon as the side dishes were served, their eyes lit up as they held their small bowls.
Lin Wanchu prepared a dish that's perfect for eating with rice—stir-fried pork with chili peppers, while Yu Hansheng made a simple home-style dish—cola chicken wings.
Finally, Jiang Qi made a dish that's commonplace in every household: eggplant and minced meat.
As darkness fell, all the light bulbs in the courtyard were turned on.
The warm yellow light shone on everyone. I don't know who started eating first, but when I looked again, the vegetables in the basket had been completely gone.
Lin Wanchu held a large bottle of lemonade that Yu Hansheng had personally crushed. "Who wants lemonade? I'll pour it for you."
Jiang Qi's bowl still held several slices of tripe coated in chili oil, and his lips were surrounded by red.
He reached out and showed a plastic cup filled with lemonade.
A glass of lemonade is incredibly refreshing.
In contrast, Lu Zhi's bowl was piled high with large stalks of bright green cilantro, topped with a small piece of fish.
Jiang Qi picked the cilantro from the hot pot, and it all ended up in Lu Zhi's bowl.
Jiang Qi is quite picky about food; in this respect, he's practically like a child.
I don't eat cilantro, celery, bitter melon, broccoli, garlic sprouts, or ginger. I can eat fried eggs, but not soft-boiled ones.
I especially like to eat eggplant that's cooked until soft and tender, and I prefer spicy food to bitter food.
I like to eat fish but I don't eat the fish head. I don't like to eat duck or chicken except for the wings.
So, Lu Zhi helped Jiang Qi finish the dishes he didn't like.
Cheng Cuo's bowl of rice was quickly emptied, and then Yu Hansheng added another bowl of rice for him.
Chopsticks picked up a slice of pork belly and some cilantro from the hot pot. Cheng Cuo didn't like cilantro, as did Yu Hansheng.
Cheng Cuo was still hesitating whether to ask, but Yu Hansheng had already spoken up for him.
"Does anyone like cilantro? I have some here."
Lu Xue quickly raised her bowl and answered loudly, "Give it to me, I'm the Cilantro Queen!"
"Cilantro is so delicious, how can you not eat it? It's such a waste."
Lin Wanchu stretched out her arm and picked up a large mouthful of cilantro for her. "Here, this is your favorite cilantro. Be careful not to get a bloated if you eat so much."
Lu Xue muttered something under her breath, then went to serve food to the two little ones.
"Okay, I know, hehe."
"Qiqi, and Qiqi, come on, let me serve you some food. Eat more so you can grow taller!"
Qiqi and Qiqi smiled broadly and said in unison.
"Thank you, Sister Xiaoxue. This is the second best dish we've ever had."
The most delicious dish in the world is, of course, cooked by my mom.
After serving the two little ones, Lu Xue then served Chi Miaomiao. Chi Miaomiao's bowl was almost full, so she used sign language.
"Xiaoxue, a little bit is enough for me."
Lu Xue looked at her disapprovingly, "You're so thin, you definitely need to eat more."
Chi Miaomiao couldn't help but chuckle, and could only lower her head and obediently eat her food.
Lu Xue was extremely satisfied with what she saw, and reached out to ruffle her hair, feeling quite accomplished.
"That's more like it, our Miaomiao is such a good girl."
Chi Miaomiao took a deep breath, lowered her eyes, and tried her best to hide the soreness in her eyes.
It turns out that simply eating well can earn you praise.
Happiness is too fleeting; she only hopes that God will favor her more and let her experience such happy times forever.
Yu Hansheng put several pieces of meat into Cheng Cuo's bowl, then suddenly leaned over and said, "Eat slowly, I'll give you more if you're not full."
After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, only leftovers remained on the table.
Lin Wanchu patted her full belly and let out a burp without caring about her image.
"It's still early. There's a projection room on the right side of the living room. Would any of you like to watch a movie?"
The group looked at each other, none of them showing any desire to watch the movie.
Lu Xue's little mind worked quickly, and a good idea immediately popped into her head. She couldn't help but rub her hands together.
"Ah Chu, your entertainment is a bit lacking. I have something more fun."
"How about we play cards?"
"Hehe, I'll go to the room and get a deck of cards right now. The winner can stick a sticker or draw on the loser's face, or it's either Truth or Dare."
"You have to accept the consequences of your bet. No cheating allowed, or you'll have to drink three cups as punishment."
Cheng Cuo was in high spirits and was the first to raise his hand in agreement.
Needless to say, Lin Wanchu naturally agreed wholeheartedly.
Of course, Yu Hansheng and Jiang Qi also joined in.
Since Lu Zhi and Chi Miaomiao didn't know how to play, they could only watch longingly from the sidelines during the first round.
Qiqi and Qiqi watched quietly without saying a word.
Lu Xue was just playing around, and whoever ran out of cards first would win, and so on.
The last one is the loser.
The cards flew through Lin Wanchu's hands as she deftly picked them up one by one, her shuffling technique skillful and exquisite.
His actions were swift and dazzling, leaving the viewer bewildered.
Lu Xue fawned over Lin Wanchu, clinging to her arm and boasting smugly, "Ah Chu's shuffling is truly a sight to behold, hehe."
Lin Wanchu took out a card, flipped it over, and casually placed it in the middle of the room. She gave everyone a flirtatious wink, looking just like a sexy online dealer.
"I'm going to start dealing the cards now."
In the first round, Yu Hansheng drew the face-up card and played his card first. Then, proceeding clockwise, whoever's turn it was played first.
After dealing the cards, Lin Wanchu got up and wandered around to prevent anyone from cheating behind her back.
Jiang Qi had a bad run of luck, and he always had a difficult time playing his cards.
Lu Xue played her cards very quickly. So far, she only has five cards left, while Yu Hansheng has seven, Cheng Cuo has six, and Jiang Qi has eight.
Lu Xue covered her mouth, her smile widening, her face beaming with joy.
"Hehe, watch out, I'm about to win."
After saying that, she slammed the cards on the table.
"Three twos with a King."
Jiang Qi, resting his chin on his hand, said with utter despair, "Pass."
This is already the umpteenth time I've said "I've said it."
Cheng Cuo glanced at Lu Xue, slowly and leisurely selecting cards, and said lazily.
“It’s not yet certain who will lose and who will win.”
"Four Aces, bomb."
Yu Hansheng waved his hand, indicating that he didn't have a card that was better than his.
Lu Xue frowned. "No wonder you didn't want to play your cards. So you were waiting for me here."
Cheng Cuo chuckled, "Keep it low-key, I won against three."
"To four."
"Pass."
"Ten."
Lu Xue was extremely frustrated, feeling like a deflated balloon.
"Oops, I was careless."
Lin Wanchu patted the top of her head and comforted her.
"Xiaoxue, it's okay, I'll help you win next time."
Cheng Cuo put his hands on his hips, laughed heartily, and raised his eyebrows. "Let me see which lucky person will be punished."
After one round, Jiang Qi unsurprisingly lost.
"President Jiang, I apologize for being so abrupt."
Cheng Cuo tore off a piece of white paper, wet it, and stuck it on Jiang Qi's face, saying embarrassedly.
Jiang Qi didn't care much, and gripped Lu Zhi's wrist tightly with his right hand, rubbing his fingers against it in a flattering manner.
He didn't think there was anything abrupt about it; his main concern was that Lu Zhi, being so jealous, might accidentally cause a scene.
