Chapter 277 Shopping
Chapter 277 Shopping
Stepping out of KFC, the sun shone down from above, warm and inviting.
Xiao Yunqing walked ahead, her steps light and quick, her ponytail swaying behind her.
She just ate half a sundae, half a serving of fries, and an egg tart, and she's in an incredibly good mood!
He was humming a song, but the tune had gone completely off track.
Song Huan followed behind, carrying the black plastic bag in her hand. Seeing her happy expression, she couldn't help but smile.
The two walked slowly along the street.
In September in Nanjiang, the leaves of the plane trees are just beginning to turn yellow, with a golden edge around them, and they rustle in the wind.
Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled patterns on the ground; each step revealed a dappled pattern.
Xiao Yunqing deliberately stepped on the spots of light, like she was playing hopscotch as a child, stepping on the left and right, the hem of her white dress swaying with each step.
Shops lined the roadside, one after another, selling clothes, shoes, and milk tea, their windows gleaming.
She would stop at each house she visited and look inside through the glass.
"Do you think this dress is pretty?"
She pointed to a floral dress.
Song Huan glanced at it and said, "It's alright."
What does "it's alright" mean?
"It means it's alright."
Xiao Yunqing glared at him and continued walking forward.
She stopped at another shoe store, pointed to a pair of white sandals, and asked, "What about these?"
"It's alright."
"How come you're good at everything?"
Song Huan thought for a moment, "Then it looks good on others, but not on you."
"Song Huan!"
Xiao Yunqing was so angry that she hit him.
Song Huan laughed and dodged, but she caught up and hit her again.
The two bickered for a while by the roadside. An older woman carrying a shopping basket passed by, glanced at them, smiled, shook her head, and walked away.
Xiao Yunqing blushed, quickly withdrew her hand, glared at Song Huan, and turned to continue walking forward.
Song Huan followed and walked beside her.
We strolled all the way to Xinjiekou.
The intersection was large, surrounded by shopping malls on all four sides. The glass curtain walls reflected the sunlight, making people squint.
There were many people coming and going, some carrying shopping bags, some holding milk tea.
Xiao Yunqing stood at the intersection, looking up at the tall buildings, her eyes shining.
"Nanjiang is much bigger than Jiangcheng."
Song Huan, standing next to her, also looked up and said, "It's alright."
Xiao Yunqing turned her head and glared at him, "Can you use a different word?"
"Okay, it is quite big."
Xiao Yunqing took a deep breath and decided to ignore him.
Turning around, Song Huan walked into the mall, with Song Huan following behind.
The air conditioning in the mall was on full blast, and the cool air was blowing down from above, making it feel refreshingly cool.
The first floor is filled with cosmetics and jewelry, brightly lit, with the jewelry in the counters sparkling.
Xiao Yunqing stopped in front of a cosmetics counter and bent down to look at the lipsticks.
Row upon row, red, pink, orange, and red bean paste colors, reflecting the light.
She looked at them very carefully, examining each one as if she were appreciating some kind of work of art.
The saleswoman came over with a professional smile. "Miss, which one would you like to try? This mauve color is very popular right now, and it makes your skin look brighter."
Xiao Yunqing hesitated for a moment, then picked up the red bean paste-colored one and drew a line on the back of her hand.
The colors are indeed beautiful, gentle and soft.
She looked at it, then put it back.
"Aren't you going to buy it?" Song Huan asked from the side.
"I'm not buying it." Xiao Yunqing turned and left.
Song Huan followed, saying, "If you like it, just buy it."
"Too expensive." Xiao Yunqing said without turning her head.
"I have money!"
"Spend wisely!"
Song Huan didn't say anything.
He glanced back at the lipstick and memorized the shade.
The two then visited several more stores.
Xiao Yunqing tried on a hat, put it on her head, looked at herself in the mirror, and asked him if it looked good.
Song Huan said it was alright, and she glared at him before putting the hat back.
She tried on a pair of sunglasses and asked him if they looked good. He said they made her look like a fortune teller. She got angry, took off the sunglasses, put them back, and said she wouldn't try them on anymore.
But after walking a few steps, I saw another shop and went inside.
Song Huan followed behind, carrying a bag in her hand. She was like a butterfly entering a garden, flitting from one flower to another, extremely busy.
When I came out of the mall, the sun was already setting.
Orange-red light leaked through the cracks in the building, spreading across the ground in fragmented patterns.
Xiao Yunqing stood at the entrance of the mall, then suddenly stopped and touched her stomach.
I'm hungry.
Song Huan looked at her, paused for a moment, and said, "You just ate KFC."
"That was for lunch."
Song Huan glanced down at her phone; it was 2:30 PM.
"Only two hours have passed."
"Isn't two hours enough to digest?" Xiao Yunqing asked matter-of-factly, her hand still on her stomach. "I'm really hungry."
Looking at her serious face, Song Huan didn't know whether to laugh or cry, "You eat so much, aren't you afraid of turning into a pig?"
Xiao Yunqing's face flushed red instantly. "Who are you calling a pig?"
I'm talking about you.
"You're the pig!" she shouted angrily, raising her hand to slap him.
Song Huan laughed and dodged, taking two steps back.
She caught up and hit him again.
He called me a pig, but how am I like a pig?
[I'm so thin!]
[Does he think I'm too fat?]
[No, I'm not fat at all!]
[He's just deliberately trying to annoy me; he does it every time. Oh well, I'll just ignore him.]
Her thoughts drifted over, and Song Huan heard them clearly.
[Besides, even if I really do eat myself into a pig, I still have you, you can't just abandon me, can you?]
Song Huan was stunned for a moment.
Xiao Yunqing, oblivious to his expression, was still fuming. "Tell me, are you inviting me or not?"
"Please, please, please." Song Huan raised her hands in surrender. "What would you like to eat?"
Xiao Yunqing tilted her head and thought for a moment, then her eyes lit up. "Self-service!"
Seeing the sparkle in her eyes, Song Huan smiled and said, "Okay, self-service."
Xiao Yunqing was so happy that her ponytail almost stood up.
He turned to leave, but after a couple of steps he turned back. "Hurry up, I know a barbecue buffet up ahead. My local roommate said it's really delicious."
Song Huan followed and walked beside her.
The two people crossed the road and turned into an alley.
The barbecue restaurant is located in the middle of an alley. It has a small storefront with a wooden sign that reads "Korean BBQ Buffet".
Pushing open the door, the aroma of charcoal sizzling and meat filling the air.
There weren't many people in the shop, just a few scattered tables.
The waiter came over and led them to a seat by the window.
A baking tray with an iron lid was embedded in the table, and several small dishes were placed next to it.
Xiao Yunqing had just sat down when she stood up again. "I'm going to get something."
She walked quickly to the self-service area, picked up a plate, and started putting meat on it.
Pork belly, fatty beef, bacon, chicken wings, and lamb skewers were piled high on the plate, like a small mountain.
I took another plate and continued picking at the food.
Vegetables, mushrooms, corn, sweet potato chips—a colorful array—filled another plate.
He brought it back, put it on the table, and then turned around and left.
I went back and forth several times, and the plates on the table were stacked three layers high.
Song Huan's lips twitched as she watched her devour the food. "Are you sure you can finish all that?"
"I can finish it." Xiao Yunqing sat down, picked up the tongs, and laid the pork belly slices one by one on the baking tray.
The meat sizzled as it hit the hot iron plate, oil splattering out. She pulled her hand back slightly, then reached over again and flipped the meat over.
The movements were quite practiced.
Song Huan leaned back in her chair, watching her grill the meat.
She lowered her head, her ponytail hanging over her shoulders, and the wisps of hair on her forehead fluttered slightly in the steam.
He had a focused expression on his face, as if he was doing something very important.
The meat is cooked.
She picked up a piece and placed it in Song Huan's bowl. "Try it."
Song Huan picked it up, dipped it in sauce, and put it in her mouth.
The meat was grilled perfectly, with slightly charred edges and tender inside, and the sauce was a perfect balance of salty and sweet.
"tasty."
Xiao Yunqing smiled, her eyes curving into crescent moons.
She picked up another piece and put it in his bowl, saying, "Then eat more."
Then she picked up a piece for herself, stuffed it into her mouth, her cheeks puffed out, and chewed it with relish.
A couple was sitting at the next table.
The girl was very thin, with a pointed chin, wearing a tight black T-shirt, and her arms were as thin as chopsticks.
The boy was sitting opposite, putting meat on the grill.
The girl glanced at the mountain of plates on Xiao Yunqing's table, then glanced at Xiao Yunqing again.
She has fair skin, a small face, a slim waist, and long legs; she looks like the kind of person who can eat whatever she wants and never gain weight.
Her lips twitched downwards slightly.
"Baby~"
She spoke in a sweet, coquettish voice, just loud enough for Song Huan's table to hear, "I won't eat so much, I'm on a diet."
She glanced at the few lonely pieces of vegetables in front of her. "Look at me, I'm only eating a little bit. Girls look better when they're a bit thin."
Xiao Yunqing paused for a moment.
She was holding a piece of pork belly, suspended in mid-air, unsure whether to put it down or not.
Her lips were slightly pursed, and her brows were furrowed.
[What does she mean? Is she saying I eat a lot? What business is it of hers if I eat a lot? I'm not fat! I didn't eat any of her meat! What right does she have to say that about me!]
She placed the piece of pork belly in Song Huan's bowl and put down her chopsticks.
No more!
He put his hands on his knees, lowered his head, and pouted so much his lips could hang an oil bottle.
Song Huan glanced at the girl at the next table, then at Xiao Yunqing.
Without saying a word, he picked up the tongs, took a few slices of freshly grilled pork belly from the baking tray, and put them into Xiao Yunqing's bowl.
"Eat."
His voice was neither too loud nor too soft, and his tone was casual, as if he were talking about something very ordinary: "We paid for this, so we might as well eat it."
Xiao Yunqing did not move.
Song Huan picked up a few more slices of beef and placed them over, then picked up a chicken wing and placed it over as well.
The bowl was overflowing.
"Besides, some people aren't that ugly even if they're fat, so why worry about becoming ugly from gaining weight?"
His tone remained casual as he picked up the Coke and took a sip.
The girl at the next table blushed instantly.
Her face turned red from her neck to the tips of her ears, burning hot.
She opened her mouth as if to say something, but after glancing at Song Huan and then at Xiao Yunqing, she closed her mouth again.
He lowered his head, poked at the few vegetable leaves in the bowl with his chopsticks, poked them a couple of times, and then stopped eating.
Her boyfriend sat across from her, looking embarrassed and unsure of what to say.
Xiao Yunqing lowered her head, a slight smile playing on her lips.
It quickly pressed down, but then bounced up again.
Then, he boldly picked up his chopsticks, took a piece of pork belly from the bowl, put it in his mouth, and chewed it a couple of times.
[He said I'm pretty!]
[He's praising me, hehe...]
She picked up another slice of fatty beef, stuffed it into her mouth, her cheeks bulging, and chewed vigorously.
[Hmph, you know how to talk.]
Song Huan smiled at her, seeing that she was clearly happy but trying to put on a brave face, and continued grilling the meat.
