Chapter 5 One Night of Danger
Chapter 5 One Night of Danger
Li Ang was very close; he could still see the black ash left where they had just stood.
He chased after us without getting out of the car, thoroughly enjoying watching the two veteran police officers scheming against each other.
In the blink of an eye, they became the front row of the tragic scene.
Besides surprise and fear, he suddenly thought of something.
He killed the burly black man on the plane to gain his regenerative abilities, but what about killing other mutants? Most of the surrounding police officers were shocked by Cyclops's power, and only a few insisted on firing their guns.
The streetlights here went out because of the car accident earlier; the collision must have hit some wiring somewhere.
The police were all hiding in the darkness, while the dying mutant was illuminated by the burning Ford wreckage behind him, making him the most obvious target.
Several police officers were shooting from the shadows.
The bullet embedded itself in the mutant's burning skin, but instead of penetrating deeper, it got stuck.
It appears that in addition to the laser eye, his skin and body have also been enhanced to some extent.
The human body is not a flammable material, and the fire on that guy's body had almost been extinguished by now.
Although he couldn't stand up, he was like a stationary gun emplacement; whoever fired at him, he would continuously fire lasers in that direction.
Even in the dark, they still managed to kill and seriously injure several police officers.
He knew he couldn't escape now. He had ruined tonight's deal and now all he wanted was to kill a few more people so they could go to hell with him.
After realizing what was happening, Li Ang immediately jumped out of the car and took out his standard AR-15 from the gun case in the trunk.
Using the police car as cover, he crouched down and fired several shots at the guy lying on the ground. Although he hit him, he still didn't seriously injure him.
As soon as the guy turned his head, Li Ang ran away. The laser hit the spot where he had just been standing, piercing a large hole in the car door he hadn't closed.
The laser he's firing now is noticeably weaker than the first one; it's only about the thickness of a wrist, but it's still deadly enough.
Li Ang understood that the eleven or twelve-pound bulletproof vests his officers wore were no match for this laser.
I simply took it off to avoid affecting his running.
He hunched over, circling in the darkness, until he came to another direction, this time aiming for the head.
Make good use of the wisdom of our ancestors.
Fire a shot and then change positions, taking advantage of the darkness and the fact that the opponent is unable to move.
He had made up his mind to end the mutant's life, and to see if the experiment could replicate the "miracle" of taking away the superpowers of the strong man on the plane.
The other officers, after the first few brave and experienced officers were shot and seriously wounded, all retreated more than 50 meters away.
They have called in volunteers from the "Mutant Management Center," who promised to send a superhero to resolve the issue within 20 minutes.
Only Li Ang was still firing his gun at the scene, even though he hadn't gone very far or gotten very tired after running a few laps.
But the memory of the laser's power to easily pierce through a person's body and its almost instantaneous speed made my heart pound.
He was still afraid.
This crappy AR-15 is too weak against mutants. It has already fired five or six rounds, and several bullets have embedded themselves in their skulls, yet the opponent is still barely clinging to life.
"Hey, stop hitting me! You'll die if you come over here. We've already called the heroes. You don't need to fight so hard."
An old policeman called out to Li Ang from a distance.
Li Ang wanted to leave, but one thought held him back.
If he can truly take over the abilities of the mutants he has killed, then this guy's laser eyes would be an invaluable treasure to him.
In reality, most mutants have useless, low-level abilities; physical deformities and various side effects that affect their lives are common for ordinary mutants.
If he escapes this time, even if he figures out his abilities later, it will be purely a matter of luck if he tries to kill someone to steal superpowers again.
After all, this is still an era bound by law. Even someone of Homelander's rank and influence would have to cover up his murders and dare not expose them to the public.
Li Ang only had the opportunity to legally kill someone if the police had to respond to the call and the other party was a serious criminal.
He moved and changed position, then fired another shot.
At the time when consciousness was already extremely blurred.
The mutant was also trying to find Li Ang's location.
He was almost driven to despair by the enemy's hit-and-run tactics.
Suddenly, the wind dispersed the fog of the night, and the moonlight became brighter. On the police car in the distance, the paint on the door reflected a blurry shadow.
He tentatively fired a laser into the blind spot that he couldn't see clearly before.
Meanwhile, Li Ang suddenly sprinted forward, and the laser shot out the instant he moved. This time, Lady Luck did not favor him.
The laser hit him.
He lunged forward and fell face-first onto the concrete pavement. Li Ang couldn't see his back, but felt a burning pain. When he reached out to touch it, his hand felt sticky and cold.
Standing up was a bit difficult, so he simply stopped moving and lay on the ground in a fixed position. He had decided that this time, he would shoot to end that guy's life.
He wiped the blood on his pants to prevent slipping when pulling the trigger, then aimed at the mutant who was also lying on the ground, looking around trying to find Leon.
"I don't believe it! You're still alive?"
Li Ang gripped the gun tightly, aimed the crosshair at the man's head, and fired all his bullets in one go.
Instead of checking the result, he rolled over, got up, and then leaped backward.
He endured the excruciating pain, his back slamming to the ground, waiting for the guy's counterattack.
No laser beams came for a long time.
Fearing that the guy was faking his death, Li Ang crawled away on his stomach. Much later, he heard the police officers cheering in the darkness.
Only then did Li Ang dare to stand up.
The police officers over there carried the charred mutant corpse, its head riddled with bullets, and slammed it to the ground repeatedly, venting their anger on it.
The old policeman who had just reminded Li Ang came over and patted Li Ang, who was half a head taller than him, on the shoulder.
He exclaimed sincerely, "You're really ruthless."
He then pulled a handful of toffee from his pocket and handed it to Li Ang, saying, "My grandson loves to eat this. Here you go."
Li Ang accepted the gift with a wry smile, and the other officers crowded around him, showering him with compliments.
They used every word imaginable: sharpshooter, legend.
After listening to only a few words, Li Ang suddenly felt his vision go white. He reached out to grab the old policeman next to him to steady himself, but he missed and fell to the ground.
Other police officers quickly grabbed him to prevent him from falling to the ground.
The old policeman then moved behind Li Ang and saw the horrifying wound. Half of Li Ang's spine was exposed, and dried blood was scalding on his skin. The laser had not just grazed him, but had completely destroyed half of his back.
Li Ang was able to stay awake entirely thanks to the adrenaline secreted by his youthful body.
The officers shouted for the helicopter that was recording the incident to come down and take Li Ang to the nearest hospital.
Li Ang couldn't see anything, only endless blackness.
