Chapter 702: Going to Take Up a Temporary Post
Chapter 702: Going to Take Up a Temporary Post
"Xiaoduo and Liujin haven't been naughty, have they?" Huang Xiaochuan asked Yu Xiang, who was in Hong Kong, on the phone from his office.
This trip to Hong Kong is part of Yu Xiang's regular monthly schedule. She spends about a week in Hong Kong every month, as she is a director of Kangci Medical Group and has a lot of work to do.
The reason I took the three kids to Hong Kong was because they were on summer vacation. Also, Liu Jin's graduation exam results were excellent, and she can get into a key secondary school based on these results. So, taking her to Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park was a reward for her.
"No, they are all very obedient." Yu Xiang looked at the three children.
After chatting on the phone for a while, the couple hung up.
There were so many documents to process today that Huang Xiaochuan was busy until after 6 p.m. before leaving the office.
Just then, his phone, which was on his desk, vibrated, followed by a pleasant ringtone. Huang Xiaochuan glanced at the caller ID; it was Ding Yi calling.
As soon as the call connected, Ding Yi immediately asked, "Why haven't you left work yet?"
Huang Xiaochuan couldn't help but look around. How did this guy know he hadn't left work yet? Could it be that he had installed some kind of surveillance equipment in this office?
How did you know I hadn't left work yet?
"Of course I've been sitting at your doorstep waiting for you for ages."
Huang Xiaochuan immediately became wary. What was going on with this guy? Why was he waiting for him at his doorstep for no reason? Based on his understanding of him, it couldn't be anything good.
"Are you at my doorstep?"
"Come back quickly, I brought you something good, you'll see when you get back." Ding Yi hung up the phone after saying that.
Huang Xiaochuan stared at his phone for a long time, trying to guess what Ding Yi had brought him, but he couldn't figure it out. So he simply put his phone on the table and continued working on the last few documents.
When they arrived at their doorstep, they saw Ding Yi's car parked in the parking lot in front of the house.
Seeing Huang Xiaochuan return, Ding Yi quickly got out of his car, complaining, "Why are you only coming back now? If you had been any later, all the lobsters would have died."
Upon hearing that Ding Yi was delivering lobsters, Huang Xiaochuan casually remarked, "Are you stupid? You could have just rang the doorbell and handed them to my housekeeper."
Ding shook his head vigorously: "No way, I'm still waiting to eat your lobster tonight!"
Huang Xiaochuan finally understood. No wonder this guy was willing to wait at his doorstep; he wanted Huang Xiaochuan to cook lobster for him. He was dreaming.
"Get lost! Are you jealous of my success? I was wondering why you were so kind as to send me something? Turns out you wanted me to cook you lobster? You really have some nerve!"
Ding Yi didn't care about Huang Xiaochuan's words at all, and said, "I know your wife and children aren't home, so I specially had some crayfish prepared tonight so I can have drinks and chat with you. Let me tell you, these are all large, freshwater crayfish, each one weighing over an ounce."
Hearing Ding Yi say this, Huang Xiaochuan's expression softened a little: "Then why do you have to come to my house? Just go to my brother-in-law's restaurant and have the chef cook for you!"
Ding Yi took a white styrofoam box out of the trunk, then waved his hand and said, "No, no, I'm not just flattering you, but I've eaten lobster at many restaurants, including your brother-in-law's, and none of them taste as good as yours."
Since things had come to this point, Huang Xiaochuan had no choice but to have someone take the styrofoam box from Ding Yi and lead him into the courtyard.
After entering the house, Huang Xiaochuan said to Ding Yi, "Let me tell you, it will be a while before you can eat it."
Ding waved his hand: "It's okay, it's okay. Good food is worth waiting for. I'll wait!" He was determined not to give up until he got his food.
Huang Xiaochuan was so angry at this guy that he laughed, and could only curse him with "Your sister!"
Huang Xiaochuan's act of entering the kitchen startled the housekeeper. Dinner had already been prepared and was on the table, but the male head of the household insisted on going into the kitchen to cook himself. Did he think that the food he cooked was not good enough?
"I'm Back in 1990" is causing a reading frenzy on Cola Novels. Haven't you read it yet?
The cook was so anxious! She was afraid of being told that she had been fired. If she lost this job, she really couldn't live anymore. Where could she find such a good job?
Fortunately, the husband's words put the cook at ease.
"Sister Liu, could you wash the lobster for me? Where did you put the spices and garlic? Could you make me some extra minced garlic?"
About forty minutes later, a spicy aroma wafted from the kitchen, followed by a garlicky aroma a while later.
After the two large bowls of lobsters were served, Ding Yi couldn't wait to grab one and put it in his mouth to suck the broth coating it, ignoring the heat.
Ding Yi's eyes lit up. "Huh? What's this flavor? It's so delicious!"
While wiping his hands with a few tissues from the tissue box, Huang Xiaochuan said, "This is called dry-fried lobster. These days, there are thirteen-spice lobsters everywhere, and I guess you're tired of them. I'm giving you a change of pace."
Then he asked Ding Yi, "Would you like baijiu or beer?"
Ding Yi was busy peeling shrimp shells, and without even looking up, he said, "Of course it's beer. Crayfish and beer are a perfect match this season."
Huang Xiaochuan asked the housekeeper to bring over a box of Qingdao Green Bottles, opened the bottle cap and placed it in front of Ding Yi. By this time, Ding Yi, the foodie, had already eaten four or five lobsters, and his hands and mouth were covered with the broth from the stir-fried lobsters.
Huang Xiaochuan looked disgusted: "Can't you pay a little attention to your image?"
Ding Yi, however, seemed completely unconcerned: "It's your own home, there are no outsiders here, why should you worry about your image? This is how you enjoy your food!"
He then clinked the beer bottle against Huang Xiaochuan's glass and started chugging it down, downing half the bottle in one go. After that, he continued to focus intently on dealing with the lobster.
Huang Xiaochuan was also tempted by the way this guy ate, so he simply joined in. The way the two of them ate left the housekeepers in awe.
Ding Yi brought over ten kilograms of lobsters, and he ate two-thirds of them by himself, along with six bottles of beer.
Looking at the pile of shrimp shells on the table, Ding Yi wiped his hands and let out a satisfied burp.
"That feels so good, I haven't had such a satisfying meal in ages."
Huang Xiaochuan asked him with some curiosity, "Why did you leave your wife and kids at home today and come here to eat alone?"
Unexpectedly, Ding Yi gave a very compelling reason: "I'll try the dishes on behalf of the mother and daughter first. When your Yu Xiang comes back, I'll bring the whole family over."
Huang Xiaochuan really wanted to throw the pile of shrimp shells on the table at this guy's face. This guy was definitely acting like he was the chef, and even brought his whole family to eat here.
Suddenly, Ding Yi's expression turned serious: "I have something to tell you."
Huang Xiaochuan knew Ding Yi very well. Seeing his sudden change in demeanor, he knew it must be something serious. However, he also admired Ding Yi for keeping it to himself until now.
"You speak, I'm listening."
Ding Yi then told Huang Xiaochuan the real reason for his visit: "The organization talked to me. Soon I will be assigned to a county in the west as deputy county head for two years. Even my wife Qi Huan doesn't know about this. Are you the first to know?"
Huang Xiaochuan immediately understood. This was a very common thing within the system. It was a prelude to giving Ding Yi more experience in grassroots politics and to vigorously cultivate him.
He was genuinely happy for Ding Yi: "That's great! Soon we'll have to call you Deputy County Head Ding."
Ding Yi retorted angrily, "Seriously!"
He then made a request to Huang Xiaochuan: "As the saying goes, a hero needs three helpers. You have to help me with this. You know, I'm good at finance and securities, but not so good at the real economy."
Before Ding Yi could finish speaking, Huang Xiaochuan agreed: "Alright, I understand what you mean. I'll talk to Jiang Bixing and you can contact him directly. It's fine to discuss building a factory together or adding designated agricultural product purchasing points. I'll also have someone go and see if there's anything worth investing in to help develop the local economy."
Ding Yi immediately beamed: "Then it's settled!"
