Chapter 13 Awarding of Medals
Chapter 13 Awarding of Medals
Lu Yiming held the phone, completely bewildered.
Without saying much to Chen Ruoyan, he hurriedly waved goodbye and left the hospital.
Forty minutes later, he arrived at the Fremont Police Department gate, panting heavily.
Mia had disappeared, so he had to borrow a bicycle.
Fortunately, my physical fitness has improved a lot, otherwise I would have been exhausted halfway there.
He had just pushed open the heavy bronze door.
Bang!Bang!Bang!
Countless ribbons rained down from the sky, and colorful pieces of paper exploded before his eyes.
The entire lobby of the municipal bureau was packed with people.
All the members of the homicide squad, and even officers from other departments, were standing here.
clap clap-
Applause erupted like a tidal wave.
Mia, standing in the crowd, clapped reluctantly, turning her face to one side and rolling her eyes so hard they almost reached the sky.
His former classmates looked at him with envy.
"Holy crap, I got the commendation medal already?"
"Hey, we're not even doing as well as a police auxiliary officer..."
"That kid is really lucky."
Lu Yiming stood there completely stunned, with two colorful ribbons still hanging above his head, blinking his eyes.
He wondered if he was dreaming.
This setup... isn't it a bit too exaggerated?
Marcus, his face flushed, enthusiastically pushed through the crowd, grabbed Lu Yiming's arm, and dragged him forward.
"Hey! Kid! Stop daydreaming! The chief's still waiting on the stage!"
On the platform, Gu Qiu, dressed in a crisp khaki high-class police uniform, looked solemn.
This was the first time Lu Yiming had met the Fremont Police Chief, who appeared to be over fifty years old and was said to be of Chinese descent.
Upon seeing Lu Yiming walk onto the stage, Gu Qiu's expression turned solemn. He stood at attention with his feet together and gave him a formal police salute.
Lu Yiming quickly straightened his back and returned the greeting.
"Chief."
"I hope you can take this as a starting point and make even greater contributions to the city of Fremont."
Gu Qiu reached out and firmly grasped Lu Yiming's hand.
Immediately afterwards, he took out the medal of honor from the brocade box and pinned it to Lu Yiming's chest.
clap clap-
The applause from the audience instantly reached its peak.
……
The brief ceremony concluded.
Marcus immediately moved closer, his thick arm clamping down on Lu Yiming's neck with such force that he couldn't move.
"Listen up, kid! I forgot to tell you, you've officially been transferred to the homicide unit! My unit!"
"You don't need to call me 'sir' or 'lieutenant' anymore in the group. From now on, just call me LT or 'boss'."
"According to tradition, we should throw you a barbecue welcome party, but with the body-piece case causing such a stir right now, we'll have to wait until the case is solved and then combine it with the celebration banquet!"
Then, Marcus, like a salesman, introduced him to the homicide squad officers one by one.
Lu Yiming outwardly agreed, but his mind was racing:
They were still figuring out how to get to the first corpse.
I still have 27 hours of anatomical skills left, and I can't waste them.
Now that I'm in the homicide squad, all I have to do is ask to see the body, and everything will fall into place.
He suppressed his inner elation and acted calmly and generously, shaking hands with everyone warmly.
Until he walked up to Mia.
Mia reluctantly extended a few fingers, touched the water lightly, and then immediately withdrew them.
Lu Yiming clearly saw that after shaking hands, she even wiped her hands with a tissue.
What the hell does this mean?
Lu Yiming cursed under his breath, scanning the crowd, only to find that one familiar figure was missing—Mike.
His old partner who colluded with him and worked alongside him to arrest people.
How could I miss him during such a glorious moment for myself?
"Boss, Mike isn't here today?"
Marcus waved his hand dismissively:
"No, a run-down pharmacy was robbed last night. Mike is handling it; it's probably just some drug addicts trying to steal their medication."
Lu Yiming suddenly felt a little guilty.
Good grief, that pharmacy was robbed by Mike and me.
They actually called the police and made Mike handle it?
The referee, the referee, the organizer, and the co-organizer are all my people. I'm dominating this game!
Marcus whispered in their ear, using a voice that was only loud enough for the two of them to hear:
"By the way, the chief hinted that if you make a contribution to the body-piece case, he's willing to promote you to police officer."
Lu Yiming was stunned for a moment, which meant that he didn't have to wait until the end of the year.
If I perform well in this case, I can get promoted!
"Boss, don't worry, I'll definitely do my best."
Just as he was feeling happy, his gaze suddenly turned to the distance not far away.
He saw the person he had just met that morning.
Leo, a Chinese-American police officer with a round face and a full beard.
The other person was facing away from us, holding a coffee and chatting and laughing with several male police officers.
Noticing Lu Yiming's gaze, Marcus lowered his voice and muttered:
"This guy was forced into our team by the mayor as the deputy team leader, specifically for the subway corpse piecing case."
He doesn't get along with the group; besides drinking coffee, he doesn't do anything serious.
Lu Yiming's lips curled up, revealing his white teeth.
"What a coincidence, I don't get along with him either."
Lu Yiming straightened his collar, raised his head, and walked over.
"What a coincidence, Officer Leo."
"We meet again."
Leo turned around, offering no return greeting, but simply a slight smile.
Bah! A Chinese person with an English name? What a traitor!
Lu Yiming cursed inwardly, but his smile widened even more:
"Didn't you say that if I didn't beg you, I wouldn't have a chance to join the homicide squad?"
See, I'm coming in now, aren't I?"
Upon hearing this, Leo reached out and patted Lu Yiming on the shoulder affectionately.
"What I'm saying is, there will come a day when you'll need my help."
"It's not that you can't get into the homicide squad if you don't ask me for help."
Lu Yiming was stunned.
What more could I ask of you?
On the other side, next to the water dispenser, three or five female police officers were gathered together whispering.
"What was the boss thinking? Why did he bring this yellow-skinned guy in?"
"I heard he's quite capable; he just solved a serial murder case yesterday."
"They were just lucky. If they had that kind of ability, why didn't they solve the body-piece case?"
Hearing people gossiping about Lu Yiming behind their backs, Mia automatically refreshed her location behind them.
"Exactly, exactly. This guy looks like he has kidney deficiency. Look at how pale and thin he is."
Upon hearing this, several female police officers from the homicide squad couldn't help but cast curious and scrutinizing glances at Lu Yiming.
"What a pity, he's so handsome... I was thinking of inviting him over for a drink tonight."
"Ha! Good luck. Whoever marries him is in for a world of trouble!"
Before he could finish speaking, "smack!"
Mia slapped the policewoman across the face.
"Who are you saying will have a miserable second half of their life!"
The policewoman was stunned, covering her face and staring blankly at her, completely unable to figure out what she had said that offended this young lady.
The crowd looked at each other, angry but not daring to speak out.
Oh well, what can I do? They have connections. I can't afford to offend them, so I can only avoid them.
Seeing that things were getting out of hand, a female police officer nearby quickly and abruptly changed the subject:
"I heard... I heard our team's overtime pay was canceled? Damn it, the mayor is a real beast!"
The topic was successfully shifted in an instant, and everyone's criticism was directed at the mayor.
"That's right! I heard that because the subway corpse-piece case can't be solved, and it's also involved in a corruption scandal, his public approval rating has plummeted."
"He'll probably be stepping down soon."
Just then, a patrolman rushed in looking panicked.
"Something terrible has happened!"
He leaned against the door frame, panting heavily.
"Another suitcase was found at the subway station!"
